Those that have changed their fuel filters in 00-01 Maximas..

did you notice any difference in mpg? Does anyone have the write up and how much does the filter cost from DaveB? I plan to do this along with my brakes and spark plugs over spring break.

Thanks

Fuel Filter does not need to be replace according to the owner's manual due to the fact it's in the fuel tank. Nissan consider a maintanence free part. If you want, it's gonna be a quite a task to replace it. The part only cost 3 bucks for it. As far as getting to the tank, you have to remove the rear back seat. it's a very lenghty task. There was a write up somewhere on the post. It's not worth doing it if you don't want to get fuel smell and a mess. Yet, even break a connector on the fuel floater.

It's been discussed before and I still want to change my filter. Who's got the write up?

I've done it. I even have a writeup with some pics from when I broke the fuel sender unit's supply line on the inside.

I didn't notice any difference in fuel economy, but did notice a DRAMATIC night-day difference in power. I guess mine was in horrible shape.
Check for any threads started by me... I started one which ended up in a writeup.

I would, but they won't let me search.

This should be the link. I saved it because I've got a fuel filter and one day will try and swap it out. Hopefully right before I install NX.

It isn't hard to do, just takes time. You should notice a different after doing it and nothing on a car is "maintenance free".

Thats what the dealer will tell you, but it can be bought from DaveB separately.

I changed mine last night, its not that hard of a task at all, just for me I got a small issue because I have the Walbro 255lph pump in there which is technically 1/8" longer than the stock pump. So its causing me some problems at the moment.

I do not thing a fuel filter would be $3. Eventough it is considered a maintenance free item it should be replaced when all other resources have been met ie: air filter, fuel injectors cleaned, etc. This should be left alone if possible (IMO)

Why would all of a sudden you NOT want to change a FF? Every OTHER car in the world needs them changed...what monopoly does Nissan have JUST for the Maxima? A filter is a filter and filters have a life span. Because its in the fuel tank...nobody is sure what it is. I am confident Ill be replacing my every 30K.

I did it also, its not hard...do it when the gas light kicks on and dealing with fuel will be kept to the utmost mimimum.

From DaveB I believe the FF is like 12 bucks and the Gasket (PLEASE REPLACE IT) is like 9 bucks.

I was chasing a fuel mileage issue and my FF was NASTY. THe FF was the trick. Just because its in the fuel tank does not mean it does not need replacing. Nissan just has a bad design :gasp:

888-254-6060 - Ask for Dave Burnette as there are two Dave B's at SouthPoint Nissan.

Yes its basically what the fuel pump goes into, that whole unit is the fuel filter.

If it has a hole in it and is at the bottom, yes thats the filter.

Its all down there. When you pull the assembly out you will be putting out the entire unit.

Check the pics in my thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=276627

The "sensor" is the whole top housing, which includes all the soldered wires/connectors/etc. It does not include the fuel return hose which snakes down to the bottom, nor the bottom chamber, nor the fuel pump.

I broke the fuel supply inlet on the inside of the "sensor" housing, that's why I posted that thread (the first pic in my first post is exactly that). I think it was $85 or so, can't quite remember

No, you must buy it through a Nissan dealer.

You need the Fuel Filter ("fuel strainer assembly"), and replacement O-ring which goes around the lip of the fuel tank (to ensure proper sealing, since the O-ring gets crushed)
About $22 shipped from DAVEB (Dave Burnette) at South Point Nissan. You can find his contact info in other threads.

Great write-up. This write up should be included in Installation/How-to's section. So that others with no search privilege can readily get an access to it.
