Slipping transmission from 1st gear to 2nd

I see some TSBs for slipping transmission issues but has anyone ever had this fixed by a dealer and if so, was it covered under warranty?
My car is at the dealer right now and they confirmed the solenoid has to be changed and they're quoting about $700 to fix it. I thought transmissions were covered by warranty till 100,000 miles.

I have about 70k miles on my 2k max SE now and right from when the car was new, I’ve always had that slipping problem with the transmission especially in the winter. I mentioned it to a service manager at a Nissan dealership and he said that was normal in the morning before the car warms up. Over the years, I’ve gotten used to it and thought of it as normal till I saw the TSBs courtesy of you guys @ maxima.org

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, as I believe Nissan ought to pay for the repairs.

power train warranty is only till 60,000. unless you bought an extended warranty, you will have to pay for it.
i was having the same problem. wasnt the solenoid so i was afraid it was the TCM. then i checked the tranny fluid and it was low. filled it up and added some tranny stuff that slick 50 makes. it is supposed to help clean out deposits etc. after i had that in for a few days.....SHIFTS SMOOTH AS BUTTER!!!

this is what i used.

Slick 50® High Mileage Automatic Transmission Treatment

The average age of a car on the road is 9.1 years. The automatic transmission fluids in high mileage vehicles can suffer from permanent viscosity loss and degradation in flowability. This out-of-spec transmission fluid can cause problems in the transmission such as wear, clunking, erratic or prolonged shifting, loss of torque, higher operating temperatures and automatic transmission fluid leaks. Most transmission treatments are added to try to fix a problem in a high mileage vehicle.

Slick 50® High Mileage Automatic Transmission Treatment is formulated to help cure the problems and to prevent them from reoccurring. The shear stable additive in Slick 50® High Mileage Automatic Transmission Treatment increases the viscosity of the transmission fluid back to the OEM spec and adds back vital compounds that are depleted over time. The restored transmission fluid will help improve shifting, protect against friction and heat, reduce leaking and maintain low temperature flowability. Slick 50® High Mileage Automatic Transmission Treatment comes with a 36,000 mile transmission limited warranty.

I agree with you that Nissan needs to pay for this...obviously, the original slippage was mis-diagnosed by an igorant service manager who should have know the TSB existed...

I would go back to the service mgr and have a firm, no-nonsense conversation with him about this obvious mistake on their part and if he still balks, tell him you will be pursuing this further with Nissan Customer Service. They have no choice but to own up to fixing your tranny...it's obvious the Service Mgr fouled up here....

PS: that 'slipping in the morning is normal' excuse from him is nothing but unadulterated hooey, BTW...

I recently had my tranny blown. I removed all the parts regarding SCer but I left the tranny cooler and I took it to dealer for it to be covered under warrenty but unfortunately they found out my tranny line was crunced up from tranny cooler so here's what they said "whoever installed ur tranny cooler it crunched ur tranny line so there was lack of fluid flowing through ur tranny that's why it burned ur tranny" so Nissan are not gonna cover my car under warrenty

So, when you say you mentioned it to the service manager, did they write it up on the ticket or did you just say it in passing? If it's on a the service ticket you may have a chance for at least partial consideration. Otherwise I'm afraid you're out of luck. If it's really been doing it since day one, you certainly had more than an ample opportunity to insist that they look at it.

You're only 10k mi out of the powertrain and have history in their system about the same problem. I'd start making some calls to see if they can take care of you on good faith.

Some good news.........
Explained my situation to a service manager @ a Nissan delear close to me and he called NISSAN and for some reason they decided they'd fix the tranny for free but they would not fix the brake pulsation problem that i have.

I have had my rotors turned 3 times because of pulsation and i've been trying to get nissan to pay for it but they wouldn't..........But i'm glad that @ 70K miles, they're fixing my tranny.

That's awesome news. Now it's my turn to see if I can get Nissan to pay for a new tensioner I had replaced yesterday.

Congrats! Was that Tischer Nissan? If so, they're pretty good. I've had several good experiences with them and even though they're 20 miles away and I have a Nissan dealership right down the street, I normally go with Tischer.
