I have read the thread on "service engine soon....' and the ECU codes.

If the light coming on was set by a condition that was a one time thing,
how many engine starts or how much mileage befor it goes away (light turns off).
dealer service advisor seemed to think it was mileage related but I thought it was a number of engine starts

 

I had me SES light come on last week. I checked and double checked the code - undefined. Reset ECU but light came back on after a couple of days. No changes in the way car ran so I decided to see what would happen if light was left on. 200kms later, light went off and has stayed off since.

 

mine took about 2 weeks. I think the official number is 24 cold starts. Which means you cant just sit there and start the car 24 times, starting it after the car is completely cooled down.

 

It's either 15 or 25. I ran into the "service engine soon" light when I installed my CAI. MAF sensor wasn't connected all the way and threw a code...can't remeber what it was... But anyway, my mechanic told me 15 or 25; he wasn't sure seeing how we weren't at his shop for him to look it up. He told me after I start it up and, let the car run for about 5 min, for 15 or 25 times; the engine light should go off. I didn't have the time to sit there and do it 15 to 25 times so, I just went on with normal day to day stuff and about a week later it went out and hasn't been on since...
