whenever i go to start my car after it is completely cold, i.e. first thing in the morning, when i get off work, etc. i have a hell of a time starting my car. it will start, and then die every time, if i don't rev it just a bit. after revving for a few seconds, it will stop and just run normal. it doesn't do it when it is warm, only cold. it will start, and the rpm's will go way down, then die.

anyone got any suggestions?

 

These are possible problems.

1. Loose or faulty electrical connection at distributor, coil or alternator.
2. insufficient fuel reaching the fuel injectors.
3. Vacuum leak at the gasket between the intake manifold/plenum and throttle body.
4. Idle speed incorrect
5. Intake Air leaks, broken vacume lines.
6. fualty fuel filter. clogged and/or impurties in the fuel system.

 

so those problems would fix themselves after a few seconds?

 

you are like the 6th person in 2-3 days with this same problem not good

 

no they would not fix themselves. you need to have the car checked. you should not drive it like this. It has to do with your fuel system. It could be a faulty Fuel pump, but You can't take my word for it. I am not there to see the car. so have a mechanic check your car. good luck.....

I had the same problem. Pull out the code and it was a bad coolant sensor. I fixed it and never have that problem again.

My car did this for about a year, with no associated codes. It started doing it in warmer weather, then it stopped completely and hasn't done it in 2 months or so. It seemed to help if I didn't let off the key as quick as it was starting (meaning like a tenth of a second longer) These cars have a pretty complex intake system with a fast idle cam and thermo element for cold starting. If I had to guess its probably one of these parts going screwy. Nothing to run to the shop over unless, of course, it won't start at all.
