For the last time...Warspeed vs. Budget y-pipe...what's better???

I was just about to order a warspeed y-pipe and i was doing some research ... a lot of people say budget is better....

What IS better??? I am confused...

A y-pipe is a y-pipe. There's no real difference. I know for a fact that WSP uses lined flex sections which do quiet the hiss that Y-pipes are famous for. I have a non-mandrel bent WSP y-pipe and I'm very happy. I've also installed a Budget Y-pipe on another 4th gen and it went on fine.

Well the main difference is that the cheaper Warpspeed pipes (like the group deal) are aluminized steel and budget is stainless. The stainless is more rust resistant than the aluminized steel pipes. So, since I live in Indiana I am more comfortable getting the stainless budget pipe due to the salt and snow in the winter.

I have a Warpspeed stainless steel y-pipe. Its survived two NE winters and seems to be in good condition.

Its very well made. Plus, if you go with WSP you're buying American, if you actually give 2 craps.

I've never heard anything bad about Budget.

I live in the Midwest also and my 2.5 year old alumnized WSP pipe doesn't have a spec of rust on it. Don't forget that stainless can rust too. Budget doesn't use a terribly high grade stainless.

Hey there SAM. Me and SUPERFISHSTICK both have BUDGET. I love mine and he loves his. Mine just went through it's first winter and it still looks good. We just wrapped his Sunday and it's MUCH deeper sounding, I think. Mine was at least.

I Have the Stillen Y-PIPE it has not hiss or wistle sound comming out of it. Y-PIPE is a Y-PIPE. it just the name you pay for.

It is under the car, I don't think it is a big deal if it does Rust. It is not something you see everyday, Unless you like going under your car and look at your Y-PIPE.......

If you can get a good deal on a WSP one, I would get it. If nothing else, for the less hiss noise it is supposed to produce. However, if there are no deals on the WSP ones, I would get the Budget one, because they are the cheapest after that. Also, I have heard nothing bad about Budget. I would have gone that route myself, but I got in on the historical Warpspeed y-pipe gd done by Budha56.

Budget uses T-304 Stainless Steel which is high quality and the same as Wrapspeed uses on their expensive pipes.

The other thing you might consider is that Stainless Steel retains heat much better than aluminized steel so exhaust gases are kept hotter and scavenge better. Cattman says there is a 10% HP increase in using ceramic coatng because of this same effect. How much SS would be over aluminize steel I am not sure but there would be a performance increase.

At $190 delivered for a T-304 SS Y-Pipe I believe Budget's is a bargain.

That's what Stillen has Ceramic Coating, but it alll comes down too, are you planning to go under your car everyday, to look at your Y-PIPE for rust and dirty particle, that got on your Y-PIPE over years of driving the car?

well, on the budget website it says that it's $250 and i can't find a y-pipe but i think that the F-pipe is the thing i'm looking for right???

Thats $250 Canadian which is $185 US. Budget call it an F because it looks more like an F than a Y, regardless thats it.

I still have my budget y hanging in the garage with the gaskets and all. I don't know if I will be installing it after all. I might sell the car around summer.

So, would it be a good idea to get some ceramic coating to spray on the y-pipe before I instal it? Where can I get some? Is Stillen the only place that sells it? Or can I pick some up at like Autozone, or NAPA?

I went with the warpspeed one because it was just such a good deal. However, Budget is a dang good deal, and I might should have gone with $30 extra for SS. I don't know if it really yields 10% more hp though.

Don't buy stillen and no you cannot pick it up at autozone. Stillen is too expensive. Pick either Budget or Warpspeed. Make sure you get mandel bent if it's going to be from warpspeed.

I got budget I don't hear no "hissssss" noise and my car sounds 10 time better even with stock exhaust on. The only thing that I don't like about budget is that you don't recieve a confirmation about them actually charging your card, or shipping info. So I was concerned, about that. Other then that everything is good.

What I was asking about was the ceramic coating that they were talking about. I already have a WSP y-pipe sitting at home waiting to go on the car. I just wanted to know about coating it. I know, I don't want stillen, if I can help from it, but I don't know where else to get the stuff from.

Ceramic coating has to be done professionally, it is not just a spray on.

You can probably get it done locally unless you live in the boonies, its fairly common now.

FYI, my WSP non-mandrel uncoated alumunized Y-pipe made 6fwhp/7fwtq more than my old Stillen equal-length y-pipe. I attribute the gains to the larger down and primary pipes WSP uses.

I'll also add that I witnessed testing done by WSP comparing their mandrel to non-mandrel y-pipe. On the same machine and the same car (with the ECU adjusted), the mandrel Y-pipe made 1hp more.

i was thinkin about going for the budget y pipe. But I have a question for you guys. What is the difference between California Spec and Regular y pipes? Does it have to do with the pre-cat/emissions state requirements? I'm located in NJ, so obviously I'd get the regular one. I was just wondering what the difference was. Is there a drop in HP potential with the California ones? Thanks.

It has nothing to do with where you live, it has to do with what specifications your car meets. In 1999, they started making a California Spec and a Federal Spec. YOu don't have to worry about this because you are 98...you are FED spec. Anyway, the Fed Specs have fewer O2 Sensors than the Cali Specs...because of regulations in Cali....thus, where it gets the name.

You have to buy the pipe that corresponds to the spec car that you have.

Budget does not make aluminized pipes, PERIOD. Check it with a magnet it will not stick, that means its Stainless Steel.
