Strut bearing changing...grease it or not grease it Help!?

I'm chamging my strut bearings. I have purchased new ones. I'm just wondering if I have to grease them up before placing them in, or if they simply just go in as they are? If I have to grease them, what type of grease should I use? Thanks in advance

Check out the Strut Bearing R & R page below. Sounds like the new bearings are prepacked with grease for the life of the bearings. That's why it's easier to replace them than to repack with grease.

The motorvate site just talks about re-greasing your old bearings...not new ones. New ones come ready to install.

DO NOT grease the strut bearing. It will wear it out quick and cause it to make a horrible clicking sound everytime you turn the wheel. Just install them clean with no grease and you will be good.

How can he insatll them with no grease when they come pre-greased? Lack of grease will make the popping sound worse. ELCID where did you get the bearings and how much?

Cool. Ya I don't see any grease with the bearings at all. I'll just install them as is. And hopefully it will all work out. Thanks again.

There is some grease in there, but the bearing is sealed up pretty good so you can't see it. Pull out a worn out or broken one and you will see grease. Can't really understand why someone would want to refurbish such a cheap yet important part but I guess some people try anyway.

Good luck.

I thought the motorvate site had to reinstall new bearings 10 months after trying to regrease them.

Just checked, it says so (choose the right grease) on the page linked above.

OK so he re-greased his old ones and then they died. So he bought new ones and installed them with no grease...Is that it? I'm getting just as confused as when I first read the motorvate.ca site...And it doesn't say what type of grease to use. I have my new bearings already. I may instsall them this weekend. Does the flat side go down or up. One side is flat, the other has a center leveled piece. Thanks.

Dude, you are killing me. As I stated before, new ones come ready to install. Just take it out of the plastic packaging that it came in and throw it in there.

See the small grey piece seated right above the upper spring perch? That's where it goes and you place it on there flat side DOWN.
