Will the 2002 Bose headunits play MP3s?

I KNOW I played a CD with MP3s on it last year. I know it. But now when I try to play a disc with MP3s on it, the counter starts, but no sound. Also, there are 61 tracks that are on the disc. In the Bose it only registers as 1 long track. Can't switch tracks. In my DVD player at the house, it plays fine so I know that the disc is good. Anybody got any guesses?

One of my coworkers has a 99 Altima with the STOCK headunit and it plays MP3s. I know for a fact. One of her MP3 discs is what I used to test my system last year and the disc played fine. NOW, after having the Bose h.u. replaced, it doesn't. ?????

Do you mean a CD with mp3s converted into an audio disc or a CD with actual mp3 files on it? No Nissan as far as I can recall has ever come with a factory MP3 player.

Well, there are about 42 tracks on one of her discs so unless they are 7 seconds apeice, I am guessing they are MP3s. It's confusing to me too. I don't know how a 99 Nissan with a factory headunit can do this. She uses CD-RW discs and says they are the only kind that works. I put my newly compiled 61 track MP3 disc in her car and it did NOT work. But it works at home on my DVD player so I know its a legit disc. Maybe I'll try to burn a version on a CD-RW when I get home. I dunno. I really hope it works but now I'm gettin discouraged.

I can't figure out why an older gen Nissan with a stock headunit WILL play em. It doesn't make sense.

Are you sure that the disc that she's using is an mp3 disc?

It's a Memorex CD-RW. She used Roxio to compile an MP3 disc and burned 42 tracks on it. No WAY they are wav. files. That would be around 2500 megabytes. I am stumped man!

A stock 99 Altima headunit (and practically all Nissan headunits as of today) will not play mp3s.

I think you should get that CD and pop it in your computer to see the contents.

Consumer CD-R's have a 700MB capacity on them. 16 bit, 44k wav. files that have playtimes of 3 to 5 minutes are too large to get 40-50 of on one disc. Compressed files, like MP3s, will. That is why I don't think they are wav. or uncompressed audio. I am just gonna get one of her discs, bring it home to the lab and get to the bottom of it. If those tracks are MP3s then I will be back with the recipe on how it was done so we can all take advantage of it. If not, then I will slink back to retract all comments and admit defeat.
