Stall when clutch depressed and RPM over 2400
Stall when clutch depressed and RPM over 2400
Thanks for even looking at this - I'm not sure if it's been covered before because I only recently bought a 5th gen (owned a 3rd gen auto for two years now) and the search function is currently disabled.
I currently am driving a 2000 GXE 5spd with 71000 miles. I am the second owner.
When the car is warm and has been running for awhile, it has an intermittent stalling issue. If the RPM is above about 2000, and I depress the clutch (such as coasting to slow down before executing a right turn), and the RPM begin to fall, they will simply fall all the way to 200 or less and the car stalls out - turns off right there in motion, in the middle of a turn! It also does it at stoplights, on the highway - wherever.
I have considered adjusting the idle higher, but it doesn't seem to be an idle problem - the idle at rest is still at 700 or so at a stop. It ONLY HAPPENS when the RPM fall from high revs quickly with the clutch depressed. Honestly, it's as though once the tach has gained some momentum, it doesn't want to stop falling!
Any thoughts at this point will be greatly appreciated - I'm new to the 5th gen and still trying to understand it's operation.
Thanks again,
Dave B

this usually happens when ppl do a 5spd conversion from a auto. I am unsure why this is happening to you. But a idea idea would be for you to blip the throttle to keep the rpms up, or just don't keep the clutch depressed that long... downshift faster.
I've had that problem before. I cleaned my trottle body and filter and it went away. And i have a 5spd conversion but i dont think it had anything to do with that. Dixit had this problem as i recall; cant remember what the prob was.
