quick body question....

im thinking about either replacing my rear bumper or trying to fill the gap that i cut for my dual outlet system. i just wanted to go back to stock muffler but only problem is the hole i have on the other end of the bumper. is there anything that can be done except for swaping bumper itself? please give me some advise/tips....

thanks,
T

fill the hole by finding an old junked scrap bumper (ask a body shop)so you can cut out a half circle piece and glue it in place using a bumper repair epoxy you can buy at a body shop store then sand and give it a layer of bondo to even it out, primer paint

I would suggest using fiber glass! You can use a couple of pieces behind the bumper to connect from each side of the opening. make sure to rough up the back side of the bumper where you are going to lay the fiberglass so it bite's!!! Once that has hardend you can use a product called metel glaze on the front side of the bumper. The company that makes metal glaze is called "Evercoat". Don't worry about the name "metal glaze" it is used on all types of materials in bodys shops everday! It is a hell of alot easier to sand then bondo & a lot stronger too. Hopefully you are familiar with body repair, is so using fiberglass will turn out alot better then glueing in a piece of plastic you would have to cut to shape anyway... Not to knock the other guy's solution, but I would go my route, since I have expertise in the paint & body field. It is actually easier then it may sound. Just make sure to use your fiberglass wisely so it's not a big task to create to body lines on the bottom of the bumper. Use thin, long strip's & it will turn out far superior & you would never know it was cut out in the first place unless you look @ the back side of the bumper skin. Bondo is useful too, but with plastic it could get ungly since you would probably have to use 80grit sand paper instead of let's say 320grit on the metel glaze. 80grit would make an ugly mess of the plastic that you are trying not to burn into to bad with the sandpaper .....

If you have a local paint shop, (NOT Dunn Edwards or Home depo) You can get the fiberglass @ pepboy's it isn't that expensive. You do not want to buy "FIBERGLASS RESIN" it comes in a can like bondo only smaller & it has small little piece of fiberglass already mixed into the resin. What you want is "FIBERGLASS SHEET'S", they will come with a seperate resin that you dip the sheets into or you can brush the resin on if you don't want to get messy. You will need to find a local paint & body store, not body shop to get the metel glaze. I do not recommend going to Earl Schieb for a paint job unless you are looking to get rid of your car. I would deffinitly go to a paint & body shop that uses Dupont paint products if you plan on keeping you car. Avoid Earl Schieb @ all cost. They are cheap, but just remember you get what you pay for. Most Earl Schieb paint jobs don't last long & they almost always come out looking like an Orange peel.....
