Tall drivers with B&M

I just got my STS in about 2 days ago. I love it, but it sits to far forward, I know this has been talked about before, but I searched and coulden't find anything.

Is there anyway to bring it back? It hits the trim piece sometimes...

Like so

I was thinking maybe heat up the shaft and bend it; would that mess with the way it was designed?

Thanks for any input

Acctually, it's installed right, the first time we did it it was backwards and I would have been hitting my knuckels in the center tray.....

are you talking about the rod cause thats whats backwards cause it should sit right in the center of the leather boot I would unconnect it and move it around to find the right location. I thaught i had mine in right too until a friend told me i was wrong. Went home flipped the rod a round and i was golden.

He's got it installed the right way, the problem is that the clearance is so tight that on some Maximas the shifter will hit the plastic. I guess it is possible to heat the shifter and bend it back a little, but it will make the throw even shorter and may mess up the leverage. If it were me, I'd return it and just cut the stock shifter about 1.5" and call it a day.

My b&m doesn't sit that far forward......that is pretty bad.

Here was the difference between my stock and b&m shifter...

Just for reference to put my self at ease, when I installed my B&M for my 5spd Conversion I installed the shifter with the bend facing forward. Is that the correct way?

Thanks.

That is messed up looking. I was going to get one of these, but if they are going to do that, I don't want it. I don't want to be hitting the dash trim everytime I shift hard.

The way I jam third, I'd break the trim.

WTF then? I can't figure it out? I double checked the bend and it is in right. So you think bending it more at the bend already will mess up the leverage?
I'm going to go back in and see if I can adjust it back some more, maybe I have to pushed up? Although from when I remember there wasn't a whole lot of play there.

I just checked my own clearance and I have the same pinky-finger gap for the top 3 gears...

and

But...if you look closely in the next pic you will notice that there are no nicks/scratches/dents in my trim. I slam into 3rd all the time...and I've had my b&m since the summer. It won't hit.

I think you're safe.

If I slam it it, it does hit it, I dont think i'm going to break it, thats not really my concern, it's more thats it to far forward and i'm a big guy.

Keep us posted. I would be curious to see what comes of this. I am 6'4" and that has been a concern of mine too. I have to sit far away from the steering wheel because of the long legs, and I don't know how well it would accommodate me to have to reach more for the shifter.

I'm 6'5 and love my b&m. Of course mine doesn't hit the dash trim, but it does sit further towards the front than stock. I could never go back to stock.

I'm 6'4", sit with the seat all the way back and the shifter has been great for me. Its a pacesetter and it does sit a bit more forward then stock but it's barely noticable.

i have the custommaxima ss and mine sits really forward. It like the short throws but for some reason i think that mine is to low and i dont have enough leaverage to get it out of the bottom gears and into the top ones.

yeah, from everything I have heard, B&M is the one preferred by the .org members.

Thanks for letting me know about the tall thing, guys. That helps me in deciding to get one. I wanted to, but if it was going to be uncomfortable to reach, I didn't want it. But with you tall guys telling me that you both like it, I think I will give it a try in the future.
