Chrome paint on original grill chipping

Hello,

I was washing winter crud off the car on the weekend and noticed a pit in the tooth of the front grill, just to the right of the emblem. It looks like something that will degenerate with time, peel, grow and turn yellow.

Does anybody know of any way to fix this? I'm thinking no, and I would have to replace the grill. Is this something that might be covered in the warranty? (I'll have to check the book).

Thanks!

Not to be overly redundant here, but I was washing my car on Monday and noticed the same thing. It is almost like there is a clear thin plastic sheet covering the area around the logo in the stock grill. And when I washed my car (which I do once a week) I noticed a chipping occuring. Not happy to say the least, but hopefully someone can offer a solution.

Yes, that is a good description of the problem: a plastic protective covering that has been breached. I think it may be related to extreme temperatures or temperature changes. Perhaps the plastic covering is not elastic enough. Perhaps it has not been tested long enough in real-world conditions (didn't this grill first appear in the 04 Max?)

I called my dealer service dept and they said I should come in so they could take a look. Nobody else in 04 Maxima has complained to them about this.

They also said it might have been caused by a stone chip, which I think is very likely as this car seems to attract stones. Stone chips will happen but really, I have only accumulated some 11,000 km on this car and plan to drive it for another few years. Am I expected to change the grill every year?

I guess we'll have to chalk it up as another downside to the bucktoothed grill. So much chrome on plastic is very vulnerable to damage and can look really crappy when damaged.
