Oil question, please help!

Hi, guys.

I just bought a I30 2001 with 97000mil on it. (paid a $9800)
It's a Black on Black with full "fake" wood kit on the dash, doors ....and so on. (no navi)

ok, now to my question....
Yestarday, I changed the oil, and put in the synthetic 5w30.

now, my idle is shaky and the car is not starting the same...

any idea why??

thanx!

I dont think it will be from the oil change but I would change out the plugs for starters.

If it sounds like it's ticking during startup or warming up then it may be lifter noise. This is reported by many on a very popular oil related forum when using synth oils especially Mobil 1 since it is on the thinner side for its weight. As long as everything else is fine with your engine, then I wouldn't worry about it. Just blast your music until it goes away. If you can't stand it and don't mind possibly dumping your oil, then you can try adding STP oil treatment. This will thicken the oil. If it still occurs and you have trouble sleep dump the oil and go non-synthetic.

With that many miles on the car new plugs are probably a good idea.

You may also want to clean your throttle body. I did mine this weekend, because Ive been getting a lumpy idle at times. Now the idle is nonexistent!

Newlovei30 ... can you plz explain how u cleaned the throttle body, perhaps it's time for me to do as well ... i'm having little bad idle most times, probably less idle when i fill in the gas with Mobil or Citgo.

Ok, Go get some throttle body cleaner -Auto Zone or somthg. like it- and if you want to clean you MAF get something called "CRC Contact Cleaner" -electric contacts not the kind in your eye- Just detach the MAF, spray down the inside, and let it dry.

Do you know what the throttle body is/looks like? Its the metal object containing the butterfly valve, connected to the intake manifold.

To gain access to it I had to remove the filter housing with the MAF, and the black air box between the MAF and the throttle body. You need to detach some wiring harnesses by pushing down on the green part and pulling apart.

After you have all of that removed and can look into the throttle body and see the butterfly you can start cleaning. When I looked at mine I thought it was clean... boy was I wrong!

With the throttle butterfly closed, spray your cleaner in. You may want to put a papertowel underneath to soak up the cleaner. After the liquid exiting the throttle body is nolonger black, you can start to clean the butterfly seal and the inside.

I didnt want to spray this cleaner into my intake, so I sprayed some on a clean cloth and wiped down the inside until the cloth came out clean... which took a while.

Having someone help to hold the butterfly open is almost needed.

Good luck, and if you have any other questions you can PM me.

It is also a good idea to run some engine cleaner through the engine before switching over to synth. I have used amsoils w/ great results. You will be amazed at how much grud comes out.
