Is there a way to check the level of 5spd manual transmission fluid?
On very level ground, get underneath (w/ drain pan to catch any spillage if you'd like) and remove the filler plug... feel inside with your finger, the fluid level should be even with the bottom of the filler hole. If it's below that point, continue adding fluid until it's full.
yes. car must be on level ground. unscrew the plug on the front of the trans, a 3/4" rachet will do it. put your finger in the hole, the fluid should be at the same level as the bottom of the hole.
I can easily check the level on my tranny without having to jack it up with the stock suspension.
If you want to be sure it's level, just use an actual level and place it up against the bottom of the tranny along the flat portion.

You may have more luck getting down there from above if you remove the intake resonator, the little white plastic container under the battery, and maybe the battery itself... though I think it's still a little far down there to work from above
what do you guys use to fill that sucker up? i remember filling it in my friend's honda after the swap and a few months down the line it turned out to be a bit low...i used a tube and fed it by gravity. is there a better way?
The way I do it is jack the car up, get under and remove the fill plug. Lower the car back down then use a long funnel with a flexable end and feed it through the top of the engine bay. It's easy if you have the whole stock air tubing removed. Slowly fill until it starts to overflow. Jack the car back up and replace fill plug.
