Make-up of Bose Speakers?
Make-up of Bose Speakers?
Hey guys....need a little info...
I have a 99. I have the Bose System. I like it a lot. However, when I play certain songs at a pretty high volume, the front right one pops a little. I don't know if it is the speaker or not. I don't think it it totally blown, because it is only on certain songs and with a certain volume. It plays very very very clear at all other volumes.
Anyway, I guess the questions I have are:
1. Do you think that is the speaker?
2. If I need to buy a speaker, can I just buy a speaker in the 99's and hardwire it to the amp that I already have in the door of my max?
3. Or do I need to buy the amp and the speaker together and put them in like that?
4. How hard of a task is this? Difficult?
I would appreciate any comments that could give me some more knowledge on this subject.
Thanks...
(If I don't respond very much, it is because I am out of town this weekend. I will be back in town probably later in the weekend, or at least by Monday.)
*Could someone bump it up some to get some good answers for me?*

first off do as i say and save yourself some head aches.
take the speaker from the opposite side of the car that you believe works fine, and hook it up to the side that does not work right. then set the fade and the balance to the bad speaker side. If it does not pop, then you have a bad speaker. If it does pop, you have a failing Bose Head Unit.
Solution, go to www.crutchfield.com and use the "what fits my car" program to get a new cd player that will use the factory Bose wiring. The bose speakers are great, and not worth tossing unless you plan to upgrade the whole audio system eventually.

Is there a head unit for each speaker? Or just one for the whole system?
Will replacing the cd player with an aftermarket one with an amp replace the head unit?
I don't want to get rid of the bose, and not the cd player if I can help from it. I like the stock setup. It looks better with the dash....all black. I don't want a bunch of bling to go with it. The inside of my car looks awesome....just very subtle and black everything.
Keep the comments coming everyone...

you can replace the HU with an aftermarket one, but you gotta buy some kind of adapter.
do like what was said earlier and swap the front speakers and see if the same one still acts up. if so, just buy a used one from ebay or something.
u'll get better replies if you post in the audio forum.
anywayZ what i did was i cut some old cloth and stick it in the rear bose speakers. it stopped those "cracking sound" at high volume. next, i slightly roll down my window by simply tapping on the power window switch, this stopped windows cracking at high volume.
sounds ghetto, but it works for me.

I Had That Problem Also So I Ordered An Replacment Amp( I Knew It Was The Amp Cuz I Switched The Amps And The Speaker Was Not Working On The Other Side) i have an extra Amp For Sale If You Want. and 2 Clarion Tweeters and 2 Stock Bose Speakers. e-mail me if you are interested. killcrap@msn.com
I got to check this weekend and see what I need. I just need some answers as to what it might be. Just some scenarios of different things. I just don't know much about the make up of the speakers. I think I have pretty much figured out from the comments all that I needed, but any other helpful comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Thanks,
One of my speakers went a couple weeks ago. I fixed it last week. I originally thought it was the amp, but after swapping speakers, I then noticed that the surround was completely unattached from the bracket! I bought a speaker off a friend (my front went, I bought his rear), and just replaced the speaker. So yes, if it is your speaker, you just need a speaker, not the amp. Also, the front doors are incredibly easy to remove. The hardest part is taking off the panel around the door handle, but once you get that off, it's straight forward. Just make sure you diagnose the problem properly, and then go from there. Best of luck.

Thanks, Curtis.That was good advice.
Do the rear speakers really fit and work in the front doors? I didn't know that.
I will be doing the switch this weekend, to see what is wrong.
I know all about the doors, the hard way, becasue I had to take them off when I got my side mirrors painted. It was not hard at all compared to other cars I have owned.

Actually, I should let you know that altough the speaker I put in works and sounds fine, it is a bit different. My car is a 95, the speaker I got from my friend is out of a 97. My old front one was black in colour. The new rear one I picked up, is beige in colour with a translucent dust cap. Now the speaker sounds fine to me, 'cause I just use it for highs, so I don't think there's a difference. I'm not 100% sure though.
