how do you change power steering belt?

Ok. i'm doing a udp install. I can't loosen the power steering belt. how do you get that pulley to move? I can't find a tensioner pulley like the ac/alt belt. There's a long screw behind the pulley that i can't figure out to screw clockwise or counter clockwise(loosen or tighten). give me your expertise.

The tensioner for the PS pulley is behind the pulley, closest to the firewall. I ended up just unbolting the whole tensioner to change mine. There is a bolt on top also that needs to be undone. The trick is that there is a bolt BEHIND the pulley that needs a little encouragement to get the whole PS pump bracket to move.

Try turning the PS pulley around an you will see the bolt behind it (flashlight could help). Just turn this a little after you have gotten the tensioner loose, or off, and you should be in business. Just remember, you are not trying to unbolt that bolt, just turning it so the bracket turns and allows the belt to come off.

Hope that helps!

ok. I know the bronze metal looking tensioner you are talking about. I know how to get it off. How do you put it back on? How to you apply tension to it? Thanks

ok. i took that tensioner off and I can't get it back on. getting the screw to line up where it goes into the ps is pretty tough. any tips? it didn't release the tension either.

Did you find the bolt behind the pulley?

Ha ha, that belt is a bit** to get off, but i managed it the trick is to get the pump loose enough to push it all the way down. You need all the slack you can get. I used a screw driver to pry down on the belt. The screw on the tensioner is threaded backward......right=loose left=tight

well, both of them suck. the power steering one is so tight even after I took it off and put antiseize on it. somehow, the alt/ac one stripped while I was turning it. It's not like I can do anything else besides stop or keep on turning it. It broke. I'll be buying another tensioner. and to make matters worse, I have to work on it outside because I don't have a garage and it's forcast to thunderstorm the next couple of days. I guess I'll be doing this one in the rain.
