Complete loss of power

Hey guys, my car just randomly died on me as I'm stuck on the side of the road waiting for a tow. As I was driving I saw the tachometer drop and then loss of power steering. No weird noises, nothing. No check engine light (that I am aware of). All accessories on, lights, radio, air, etc. Pull the car over to the side of the road to restart, press power button it starts back up but quickly goes again as it settles into an idle. I was thinking battery at first but something for some reason has me thinking more than that. I have 65k miles on the car and completely pissed off!!

P0007 is the code it is throwing? Fuel shutoff valve control circuit high. Friend came with a reader. Battery is also good as well it seems. Tow truck driver said he smelled gas?

Dealership called. Found out the issue. Bad mass airflow sensor. I never would have guessed a bad airflow sensor would cause the engine to abruptly shut down while driving. No check engine light to warn me etc. Unreal but blessed/lucky that I was on an uncrowded city street when it happened. They are also changing the air filter as well.

That is good information! I am surprised it didn't throw a MAF code. I did look at my AllDataDiy subscription and it doesn't even show a description for a P0007. Everything else I saw on my old odd docs just referenced that as a generic fuel system error. Thanks for the heads up!

Glad to hear you will be back on the road soon. It is not a comforting feeling knowing that his could happen when we are in the middle of no where.

Man, that's scary!!! I'd hate to think if someone was in the middle of a turn going across a busy intersection and that happened! Glad it's worked out for you.

This happened to me too in my '07 earlier this year. I was stopped at a light when it shut off without warning. My heart stopped! It started back up and I was able to get where I was going. Then it happened again when I was driving at a low speed (20-25mph). Again, no warning. Luckily I was right by a gas station and coasted in. No power steering, no power at all!!!

Towed it to my mechanic who said it was a sensor issue. What was scary is it completely shut off without warning. Imagine if I were on a freeway in the fast lane or carpool lane? Pretty dangerous.
