Brake pad/rotor recommendations?
Brake pad/rotor recommendations?
I haven't really had to do a panic stop in my maxima until the other night. I did and realized how $hitty the replacement pads are that the pre-owned car dealership threw on when I bought it. I want these off ASAP. They are very very spongy and don't offer much stopping power.
Any economical recommendations? I don't want to spend more then $200 for the fronts. Thanks all

There is no question factory parts last. I replaced the fronts at 54k and they were barely over 50% used up. I did the rear at over 80k. Neither time did I replace rotors, still no pulsation whatsoever. But if I did, I'd recommend factory rotors too, price is not bad at all. The only factory part that would be prohibitive would be calipers, dang, $415 list for the rears. Even 30% is still expensive on those. I'd have to call the dealer, but I would like to think at that price it includes the pads and torque member, which would mean all the shims and clips too, ready to be just bolted on. Has to at that price, I think. Good luck.
i got power slots up front with the hawk pads. Had them installed about a month ago. They are great, good stopping power, no fade and little dust. I had a few chances to test them from above a 100, and i was very satisfied. THE stock would have faded, like it did before.
It's the pads, check here for some good ones:

If your doing some performance driving then some people will get the nice rotors with slots, drilled holes and so forth. Espeicially the ones on Stillen. Every day driving with some good rotars but some nice CERAMIC brake pads. Ceramic brake pads with molly lube or brake lube will elimniate squealing.

I have the same setup as SuperFishstick, Powerslot rotors, & Hawk HPS brake pads installed in the front. Stopping power, and fade resistance is better than stock(I credit the brake pads more for this). I have not encoutered brake fade since I put them on. I do not auto-x or go to the track, but do some spirited driving here and there, when the conditions are right. I spent about the same if not a little less for the aftermarket parts, than I would have with OEM parts. You will encounter more brake dust with these pads compared to the OEM pads. I happen to think that the added stopping power, and less brake fade are worth putting up with the additional brake dust. If you wash your car frequently it wont be a problem.
I personally have some nice carbon-metallics from autozone. lifetime warranty. they work great. cost $32 for one set. shims pre-installed. ceramic cost $6 more. (only 2 year warrenty tho)
for the rear, you whould be looking at ray-bestos more than likely.

The most recommendations I hear from the type of driving that I do and it sounds like you do (every day with some spirited driving and such) are for the Raybestos Quietstop. They are low dust and have good stopping power and low wear. I am going to try them next. I have EBC Greenstuff right now, and I am pretty pleased with the stopping power and longevity of the pads. However, they are not really low dust.
IMO, for brake pads i would go for raybesto quietstop.
IMO, for rotor placement, just get brembo slotted, or powerslot slotted rotor.
no need for BBK for 300ZX brake upgrade unless you are thinking about track. replacement rotor and brake pads are good enough for street use. if you want more upgrade, you can change to SS brake lines as well.

I put on the Raybestos Quietstops and I like them okay. The stopping power is there and they are very low dust (esp compared to the EBC Greenstuff's). The only thing for me about the Raybestos is that I am having a little trouble with squeaking and squealing. I don't know that it is the pad, but just letting you know.
