Ran a 350Z convertible

a few nights ago, I went to pick up some chinese food instead of ordering delivery so I could play with my new y-pipe.

so I'm launching a little harder than most people from red lights, winding out the gears a little and basically just enjoying the added pull, when I see a 350Z convertible in the next lane over. I immediately thought, I'm gonna drive normal, don't want to mess with him, especially since my clutch is on its last legs. I downshifted to slow for the upcoming red light, and I guess he heard me because he punched it a little just to brake harder and get to the red first. "whatever," I thought. if I had a Z I wouldn't go picking on 4th gen max's.

we both take off from the light normally because there's another red light in front of us a block away. after that next light though, it was wide-open highway. the lights were timed so that by the time you're almost stopped for the last light, it turns green and usually is a 5mph rolling start. I sure as hell made sure I was in first, and when the light turned green and we were lined up, I floored it.

intake and exhaust screaming, I couldn't even hear his car as I wound out first, second, and half of third. I looked over to my right and all I saw were a pair of xenons through the passenger window the entire time. eventually he realized that he couldn't get by me, and slowed down and went behind me to get on the highway.

I'm gonna give the guy the benefit of the doubt and say it was an automatic with possibly another passenger inside, hopefully his girlfriend.

don't get me wrong, I would trade my car for a Z in a heartbeat. I'm just not gonna roll over and play dead if some guy in an auto tries to pick on me.

I had a run in with a 350, older guy, we kinda paced eachother for awhile, I think he noticed my exhaust and shaved end, anyway we got a light and there was a still silence between us then the light went green next thing I know im peeling through the intersection up to about 50mph and we were dead even.

i'm sorry, i just find it very hard to believe that you guys are beating a 350z auto. Thats high 200 hp vs low 200 from you with a y-pipe, both at crank. There's no way if he was going all out....i just dont see it...

heh...easy there mecca...I never said beat.

neither of us were pulling...if you consider that a quick stock Z does a low 14...add a few tenths for being an auto...then add a few more tenths for being a heavy convertible...I don't see it as that far-fetched that we would run even.

if it was a modded stick like me...he woulda been waving back at me as he disappeared into the night.

Maybe these Zs weren't racing at all...how embarrassing would that be?
