My Full Maxima TOOK a Subaru WRX.... sweet race

Just an hour ago, I was heading home from the movies with 5 people in my car. At a long light pulls up a New WRX (He head the hood scoop, the wide muffler, big wing, but it all looked factory made-(The back said Si I belive, so I'm assuming its an AMG of Subarus). ANYWAY There was a guy and a girl. They had a huge argument during the light, but we had enough time to trade looks.

So it turns green...

We floor it, and I got a 1/4 car lead on him, he had a stick because I noticed the hard shifts he had when his car jus jerked. It was head to head for about 1/3 city block and then I started to gain on him... after about a 2 car lead I slowed down and let him pass as he slowed down, he gave me a thumbs up and turned the corner.

I had 5 people and my heavy sound system and still took that guy. I don't know if it was because of the bad shifting of his, or just that the Maxima is ONE HELL OF A CAR!!!

Well thats all the action I had during the weekend!

it must have been his shifting because those things are capable of doing 0-60 in 4.9 seconds

the sti is a 13 second car, if you beat him he must have had one left arm and two bad eyes

wow, blue2k2 is the only one on this thread who knows what hes talking about... those put 300hp to the flywheel, you did not beat him...
sorry man, but its just not happening, even with my 5 year old cousin behind the wheel of that sti

EDIT: If it was a normal WRX with a terrible driver, this is believeable, but an sti would put the hur on you so bad...

The STi are just silly fast for a 4cyl car.
A friend of mine has a 03 WRX(non-sti), and if a max driver does not really know what he is doing, he can take you. I can beat him just because I drive better, but they are really fast. They have no wheel spin, and can just launch!

Guys I don't need to brag about how the Max is great and all that other stuff. You all know what a maxima is capable of and some know what the wrx can do.

All I wanted to do was share my story. He was racing for a fact (very very bad shifting, I mean it jerked so badly every time he'd shift). Anyway I won. Before we started I told my friends.... guys its a wrx, and from what he got goin with the wing and the hood, its a hooked up wrx and I got no chance. But I rolled up to him, gave a nod, got on back. And we were off.

I know if he knew what he was doing he would whip my butt like nothing, especially when i got 5 people in the car. But what i said happend, happend and i had fun.

If they were racing, the STi guy didn't know it. I frequent 350Z/G35 forums and the STi will beat either car unless the driver physically can't shift out of first. There's no way our Maximas can even compare to their power.

And, on top of that, let's look at the power to weight ratio here. The subie weighs in at a hefty 3300 pounds (im rounding here)
Stock 4th gen weighs in at about 3100lbs
add 5ppl into that, you are looking at 3500-3600 lbs EASY, while the subie, with its two ppl is looking at 3400-3500 pounds...

the STI has an advantage powertrain-wise, AS well as weight wise, plus over 100 hp on you.
'nuff said.

Why would people think I made this up?

I mean if I wanted to etertain people I dont even know (whats the point?) I can at least make up a beliveable story...

Its people like that, that make me want to not share experiences on the .org.

Cmon people, its just a story of something I experienced, you don't have to go "Ebert & Roper" (disregard the spelling) on me.

ok, so your maxima with 5 people would weigh more than an STi correct? then the STi has 300hp...that is 105 more than your maxima. so why do you think we believe this is made up?

I saw the hood scoop, the sick wing, the nice tip/muffler. and the STI emblem.

I am stock auto.

The horrible shifts of the wrx gave me the miracle win. Thats all.

Hey JetBlack, I believe ur story man. Sure, anything could happen out there. It's still kind of unclear if he was going WOT on you or if he is a bad driver. Whatever!! Glad you had a good time. Congrats on the Kill, man!

I am thinking he could have rode his rev limiter in first and still beat you. He only has to shift once up to sixty. Something just isn't right here. If everything you said is true, this wasn't a race, and the only disgraced party here is the STI. He beats you by 2 seconds; one if he isn't trying. Think about the lead he would have if the difference is that much. You're talking 5 car lengths plus, and that's being generous.

I wouldn't even consider this a victory, because the subie was like a leashed dog, it never had a chance because its owner wouldn't let it. Just because you beat him doesn't mean you won in my opinion.

Cool for you, I would just love to pull up next to one, let them smoke me just to see the STI's capabilities. Just don't let incidents like these give you a hot head. Later

First off, yes, WRX's are fast, but not that fast!

No stock WRX is capable of running 4.9 seconds 0-60, unless it's an STI, which I doubt it was based on what the racing "party" described. A regular stock WRX does 0-60 in approx. 5.5/5.6 seconds, but even those #'s are rarely seen because it takes nearly a perfect launch and perfect gear switching to obtain them.

Also, like already stated in many other threads, EVO's and WRX's have a tendency to be extremely fast from the start. That is why it is not unusual for someone with a nearly stock 4th gen to actually gain on a WRX after a certain speed, provided the WRX had a really crappy start. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that was the case, since he mentioned that an argument erupted between the couple right before the light turned green - most likely, the guy didn't even "stage" correctly.

Regardless, nice kill!

Yeah, I can believe that JetBlack didn't make up the story. But I don't think the WRX was racing, sti or not. For 4 reasons.
1. My friend has a WRX auto. and when we raced, I couldn't take him. There's no way it could have happened if you had 3 other guys with you.
2. You said he was arguing. If I argued with my GF, going WOT would be the last thing on my mind. It would make things worse. A lot worse, as if I was letting out steam on the car...
3. You traded looks. You're thinking "Oh, it's on!" He's thinking "That guy must have seen me arguing. Whatever... Smile and lets just go home."
4. He gives you a thumbs up. He's being sarcastic. He's not in the mood to race. And he's thinking, "yeah.. you think you beat me with 4 people in your slow family car. Go ahead and be happy(which you are). I'm gonna go home and sort this out with my GF."

That's the picture I'm drawing in my head.

BUT, if you really think he was on (cuz we won't ever know except you), THEN HOLY $H!T THAT'S AN AWESOME KILL!!!!

I would rephrase #3 as follows:

3. You traded looks. You're thinking "Oh, it's on!" He's thinking "That guy must be kidding lol, I know I can eat him alive so why bother racing and risk being ticketed when I can just continue arguing with my GF, get things straight, and nail her before I drop her off"

you are a hilarious dude, when you behave

On a side note, why is it women ALWAYS feel the need to argue when in the car? It just pi$$es me off and makes me beat my max

maybe it was a very very very good rendition of an STi. i once saw a non turbo imprezza (sp?) with all of the body but none of the power. he had every minor detail of the STi even down to the rims but when we all looked in his engine bay we were like dude where is the turbo. he tryed feeding us some BS saying its hidden. The non turbo subbie, rs i think it is, would probably be a better race for the max.
other than that this guy must have accidently stalled his engine turned it back on and caught up to u making it seem like he was racing. did u hear the turbo make the pssshhht noise? Ive tested an STi and WRX and evn tho the slesman didnt let me experience the full pottential of the car, i know for sure they are fast especially the STi. this driver must have shifted from 1st to 4th then back to 2nd then over to 5th and just at this point said forget it.

lol i doubt that guy even had his rpms go above 3k. the slowest stick wrx runs 60 in 5.4 sec. the sti runs 4.8

sorry to break it to ya, but he wasnt racing..... or he really CANT shift at all.

btw there is no point in arguin anymore. it doesnt matter if he was racing or not because we all know that a wrx can embarass our max's and its IMPOSSIBLE for a maxima to beat a wrx. even with all the bolt ons. you need FI to be able to HANG with a STI.

i know you are just sharing the story with us. it was a nice kill but we all know which car is faster

I suppose it is because they know that we have nowhere else to go. Women see this as an opportunity to willingly say whatever they want and argue "hardcore" without the possiblity of us men covering our ears or walking away - after all, we're driving.

hey you were there not me and I have no reason not to believe you, **** happens too bad for him... Nice Kill for you

P.S. Im a little bias cause I hate Subaru STI. Some old guy at my job has one, mid-life crisis. He totally thinks his **** dont stink... I was parked at a nice spot at work so he asked If I was leaving... I said not till a lil later... He said "come on move your car, move it down the block"...WHAT I said... "park yours there. Your car's not a Ferarri???" Anyway he found a spot right when I was pulling off... That fool just couldnt wait... He gave me a look and I just smiled and said "Heres that spot you wanted" So now I hate Subarus... I think Lancers are better LOL

i agree with jetblack. He shared it because he was also surprised he pulled on him. I had a similar race too. I raced an turbo rx 7 and the guy totally messed up the launch and probably ****ed up his clutch becuz after I impossibly beat him my friends were laughing and in the car too. After that race he didnt bother to go for another run probably too scared to mess up his clutch again.

Give the guy a break...

Everyone (even JetBlack at this point) understands that a WRX (let alone an STi) would destroy a Maxima. It's all good.

I've seen bad drivers in even faster cars than the WRX lose to slower cars than the Maxima.

Heh I have seen dumber stuff on two occasions I have beaten cars that should have handed me my ***. Once I managed to pull on a TA after about 100 feet and once I took a z28 off the line in my 2.0 VW. Sometimes people are way off. I have done my fair share of losing to cars I shouldn't have. I got beat by a poorly boosted civic while driving a 2003 Spec-V. I made an infamous 1-4 shift (fricken spec-v gear box). Everyone has their days. Enjoy it.

i dont know what your people's problem is. it was specifically stated in the first post that the guy massively messed up when he was shifting. everyone knows that an STi would hand you your own ass if you were driving a maxima. that is why JetBlack SE posted this thread. i totally believe what he said. its not like he was telling us how he went to the strip and wailed on this guy. jees

i had a simmilar experience once. i was driving my moms I-6 (slowass) grand cherokee when a Z4 pulled up to me at a light. this moron was reving his engine at me and everything. meanwhile, i'm in the jeep with 4 of my friends and a keg (i'm 17 at the time) so we just laughed at him because there was no way i was going to race him and risk getting pulled over (not that i would have had a chance anyway). so when the light turns green this ***** jumps off the line and stalls it in the middle of the intesection as i cruise by in the jeep laughing my [I]a[I]ss off. i really wish i had that one on tape
