Has anyone here done the 5spd conversion?

If so, did you do it yourself or did you pay a shop to do it? How much was labor if you paid a shop to do it? I really want to do this but know that I don't have the knowledge to do it myself.

That was found by poking through here:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....57#post2393857

Read through that first link. If you think that it's something that you and a friend could do, then have at it! There have been quite a few people on the board that have doen this themselves. Not sure what it would cost to have someone else do it.

Yes, I've read that already (it's what sparked this thread) and due to the complexity of the work involved, know that I can't do it.

I called around and was told it was way too tough; no one will do it. i was told a couple times that i should just trade in my car and go buy a manual. the ecu and circuitry is built for the car to be an automatic and getting the Max to think it is a 5 spd. is one of the complications.

I found a place that will do it but they said it would cost over a grand and couldn't give me a more specific estimate. I want to stay within the Maxima family of cars, preferably a 96 and don't want to pay too much on top of a trade-in. Nuts.

Hey newbie dont post things you made up. Ever hear of a computer swap? Whats so "complicated" about that?

The 5spd will work fine with the automatic's ECU, there will be an illuminated check engine light, thats all.

You can unplug your auto computer and plug in the manual one in 10 minutes......WOW COMPLICATED!

I didn't find it hard at all to make the Max think it is a 5 speed. I must be a genius!

Well, I want to but I don't think I can on my own. I don't want to pay $1,000+ to install $1,200-$1,500 of parts.
