Anyone that has had their max painted...pop in...>

Ok...here's the deal now...my car is going ot be painted...originally I was gonna do it myself...to use as a learning experience...unfortunately, I don't have the time nor all the tools to accomplish this...so I've put my plans to learn about painting cars aside for some time. Now my question is should I remove the bumper off the car before they paint? (it is a different color than the chassis) I am removing the body kit for them to paint off the car, as well as the spoiler and the side moldings...I'm just curious as to what you all would do or have done!

Thanks,

O

Is it a color change? If so, take both bumpers and all the lights out. Take all the door panels out and the door sills out. Take the rear seats out. Take the front seat out if you can. Paint the bumpers off the car. Body shop tends to break interior parts.

For the bumpers it would be...but the chassis is going to be staying stock...see my site for pics...it going to be painted beige the whole thing...that is.

are you going to put the side molding back on? if not your going to have to fill in some holes and a big groove. I welded a strip across the groove and bondo it up. Did all of this when I shaved the door handles. be sure to get everything painted at the same time or the paint wont match.

the moldings will be going back on...and all will be painted at the same time. I shaved the moldings on my 3rd gen but will be keeping them on this car.

Thanks for the input

I was wondering how much you expect to pay for the paint job and what type of prep the body shop includes with that price.

Reason for asking is that my son wants to take our burgundy 91 SE and have it repainted dark blue and I am guessing that it will cost us $2,500+ to have it come out right.

Thanks!!

A paint job can definately cost that much...if you don't know most of what you get charged for is the prep work related to the painting...ie repairing rust...dents....stripping the car (removing moldings, headlamps, spoiler). If all that is done, and all a shop has to do is either prime/seal then coat a car...it can be significantly cheaper....especially if there is no color change. It also depends on what kind of paint job you want...single stage/2 stage/ 3 stage.

Hope that helps

I shaved the handles and door moldings myself, im sanding the car down and taking all the lights out. Im going with a pearl white with blue pearl mixed in it. paint and materials alone is costing 1,000 . I guess thats called going a different color since it is going to be a different white.
