Backup lights wont go on when car is put into reverse

I need help with my backup lights. When i got the car (about 6 months ago) they worked fine. After a few months of use, when it was in reverse, I would have to move the shifter around to get them to light up. Now they just dont work at all. Any ideas of what is causing the problem? Could it be a bad connection in the wiring due to corrosion or something? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jake

Maybe the bulbs burned out? Think of that? The harness might be loose. Easy stuff like that you should look and find out yourself instead of asking here. When your car catches on fire after you changed your floor mats, that's when you should be asking questions.

If you have a manual transmission, the sensor attached to the transmission may be loose/bad. Check that too. I had the same problem after I got my tranny rebuilt and they fixed it for free. Later
