Well mine used to work while back - Steering wheel felt nice and tight during high speed escapades on expressway , also it was nice and "loose" in the parking lot. Now that feature is gone - steering feels loose and sloppy
The question is what actually controls that "speed sensitive steering"on 4th gen?

I think it is just built into the ECU. I don't think there is actually a part that is responsible for that type of thing.

 

so where does it say that Maximas have this function??
I have my original MSRP window sticker, which pretty much tell the cool stuff the car has, and don't see anything that says "speed sensitive steering"
Of course at highspeeds it will feel much different due to all the force is being applied to the wheels and the speed at which you are going, but if a Lexus IS300 doesn't come with this I doubt the Maxima comes with it.
I've seen several posts about this from you, and I would seriouslyI like to drive your car and see if in fact feels sloppy as you say it does. The Maximas has a pretty lose steering wheel as it is, compared to other cars

 

hmm, well after doing some reaserch on google, looks like the actual rack, and pinion assambly is what controls this function.
I have a pdf file at home that has the rack and pinion assably part by part (I think) If I find it I'll post it for you.

 

yes , it is part of the pinion assembly - i think mine might be worn.
I could swear it seems to work on some days and not on the other
or maybe it is in my head

Update !!! today i've pumped up my front Falken 512's to around 36 psi (cold) and i took her for a drive - and what a world of difference - car felt so solid and steering feel improved so much !!! along with initial bite of tires when changing lanes
I almost felt like i was riding back on Sprint springs and KYB AGX !!!
I took her on expressway and i was able to cruise at 80mph with such ease !!! slight vibration was still present when road was really rough but other then that car rode like it used to when i bought it!!!

that just made my day !!!

I da no if that is a good enough fix. I was driving my friends 01GLE and I could tell right away that the steering was like ours in the parking lot, but when you start to drive it gets stiffer.
