Car idles rough, hesitates, but smooth at high RPMS.

I have a 1992 Auto Maxima GXE

The rpms jump up and down right when I turn the car off, sometimes it goes so low that the car shuts off. I have replaced the air filter and put fuel injector cleaner in to no avail. When I stomp on the gas there is a little hesitation but it becomes smooth above 1500 or so. The car shakes like hell when it is sputtering..

Any ideas?

Is it the fuel filter?

Is it the MAF?, Is there anyway to check short of replacing it, as it is pricy…

If anyone is so kind please run a search on it (if you are a donating member) and post the links to the posts that may be relevant.

Do you have a dead injector ? Cylinder missing ? Pull each coil wire one at a time and see if one doesnt make a difference in the way its running . If you find one that doesnt change anything you probably have a bad injector .

What do you mean by the rpms going up and down when turning the car off? A bad idle air control device can cause a low idle, as could vacuum leaks-check all the little hoses, dirty TB or possibly a bad TPS.
