Hella Supertones....much louder than stock but they still sound like a "car" and not a truck or bus!

I bought them from org member bsetiawan, who might still have a couple. I originally mounted them in stock position (1 where you see it in the pic and 1 under the hood on the passenger side), but I recently relocated the under-hood one to up in front of the radiator as well...there are mounting brackets for both horns up there. Had to extend the wiring, but nothing difficult...

I got some Hella air horns. They sounded gay, just like a clown car!! The compressor blew after a few months but I didnt lose any sleep over it. Id get one of the horns that are the same set up as stock.

The hella supertones don't sound particularly "mean" in my opinion, but they are slightly deeper than the OEM horn and MUCH louder. They get peoples' attention.

Yes, they are. I bought and installed the stock Z horns, not the JDM accessory ones shown on the Courtesy webpage.

You guys who installed the hella supertones, did you use the supplied relay or not? Ive had a set of these sitting in my room for over a year now and I wanna install em soon. BTW I painted mine black.

Many people skip the relay install and just plug and play with the factory wires. Make sure you ground each horn no matter which way you do it, though.

I used the relay, because at the time (1 1/2 years ago) there was talk that without the relay, fuses would keep blowing. IIRC, since then many with the non-relay installs have been fine.....

no need to install the relay on the hellas, just make sure each horn is well-grounded, as stated above.

Mega difference. The stock Z horns have a deep and loud note compared to the OEM Max horn's wimpy sound. They basically sound like the horns on full sized Dodge and Ford pickups.

Even the stock horn on my '02 SE-R sounds better than the Maxima's. Weird. But I rarely use my horn, so I doubt I'll ever change it.

Peace.

LOL People probably wonder what your problem is blowing such a funny sounding horn in their direction. "You call that a horn?"

Itneresting. Yeah I remember reading that without the relay people kept blowing fuses. So as long as its well grounded they should be ok?

I've had Hella Supertones for 2 years and I love them. They scare everyone around when I use them. They don't have an angry sound but they are crazy LOUD!

I borrowed my cousins 2k1 with stock horns and I laughed when I honked them. They were so pathetic. I doubt anyone can even hear them.

I believe thats because the Z comes with both, a low and high tone. Just like the max has 2 horns, one behind the grill and one in the engine compartment(on the 2000 at least) and one is a high tone and one is a low tone. The hella supertones come in 2 tones also, one high and one low, I think thats just how they are paired so if you wanted the Z horns you would want to get one of each.
