it's behind the gove box. You have to remove the glove box and there's a slot with a cover where the filter slides in....takes about 10 min. to change it.

If you have an 02/03 your incabin filter are reusable. You can clean them with
with water just like the K&N filter. I've done mine twice already. Saves you many
$$$$. Good luck

So are you using the actualy K&N filter cleaner and then reoiling it too? Or do you just soak it in some soapy water?

I'm not using any oil on it. The manual doesn't calls for it. Just put the filter
under a lukewarm tap water (no soap) from cleanside out and let it air dry.
That's all you need to do. Just make sure you don't use a waterhose or
an air compressor to dry it. Or else you'll just damage the filter. Enjoy!!!!

It's drying in the sun now. The stock piece is pretty cheesy. I think I may have to replace this thing eventually, since you can't really get the black/grey dirt off...

I agree... I replaced my last year. You have to pay $$$ for the good one (check Courtesy Nissan site) but I think it is worth it. And you probably don't have to replace it every year (or 15k miles) as suggested. I will be checking/replacing it every two years.

Every 5th generation Maxima has a spot for the in-cabin microfilter. However, it was standard equipment on '02/'03s only. For '00/'01s, it was an option.

Peace.

2000 don't have it but you can put the filter in them. The 2000's are equipped for them just didn't come with the filter itself... Courtesy nissan has them and so should all nissan dealers

the "black/gray" is how it's supposed to look. When I got new filter cartridges from Nissan they came out of the box looking kind of gray....are they charcoal-impregnated?

When I say black/gray, trust me, I'm talking about the dirt on it. It's much more "white" around that. I was surprised to see the debris in there...glad I have it!

the stock filter is junk, i work for a dealer, the replacement from nissan is awesome and it does look gray out of the box, but it does still have to be changed at the same interval, i've never had luck cleaning them...
