Cold air Intakes?

Hello everyone Im new here. Im sorry if this has been covered in another post somewhere but I dont have time to look. I have a 2001 Maxima and am looking to get a cold air intake for the car.

Im comming up with some generic brands and I have so far found the Injen Intake System to be the only one I can find. Someone mind helping me out here and letting me know if Injen is my only option if I like name brand?

Hi there,

Let me see if i can get all the info you need in one post. First off if you are looking for a CAI there are 2 different kinds. One is Injen which you found already. Those run about 300 bucks. The filter they have goes in front and under the engine, kinda behind the radiator.
Next up is Place Racing. They sell a true cai. You have to drill a hole in the fenderwall to run the piping and the filter which sits in the wheel well that way the engine only takes in air from outside of the engine bay hence, colder. that runs about 200 bucks. You can also get the place racing in a variety of colors. There are generic copies of both that can be found on ebay for about 40-60 dollars. Just search there for "Maxima Intake" or "Maxima Cold Air Intake". All the intakes will make your car a bit louder, not ricey but more of a mean growl when ya get on it.
There are also short ram intakes that do not require any drilling and place the filter behind your battery. Berktechnology.com, frankencar.com sell them. The gains are about the same for all the intakes. I personally have a place racing CAI. I went for brand name and the true cai with the filter in the fender and im quite happy with it. On the other side of things many people have the injen or clones of them both and are also very happy. Its all about what you want and how much you wanna spend. Hope this helps.

MeanGreenMax - Thanks for the link. Very informative.

Krash513 - Sorry to have you write a novel, but very good information. Thank you very much.

Its hard to get quick information like that. And as you can see its about 3 weeks since I have been able to check this board. Your input has been valuable. Thank you again.

Glad you did, I dont get much time to go wandering around message boards. I do love my car and like the information I can find quickly. I appreciate the response.

JWrightMax,

I also have a 2001 Maxima and I decided to go with an Injen CAI (thanks to all the information within this thread)...which is on it's way from sportcompactsolutions.com. After reading a lot about the intakes, Injen seems to be the best around and has a proven performance record. I also heard that some other brands require you to relocated the water bottle, which I hear you don't need to do with Injen. I will let you know how it went once I get it installed.

I dont know about the rest but with my PR CAI, only thing i had to do was drilla hole for the piping...no water bottle removal...pretty sure all the short ram intakes dont require that also
