first time at the track after 5spd swap
The track and weather totally sucked. This was the first time I have ever raced at Beech Bend in KY. It was 80 degrees and 100% humidity when we got there. It was so freaking crowded, I only got 3 runs in over 4 hours. I have never driven a 5spd down a track, so it was interesting trying to figure out the launch. first run was a 14.6@98.7mph on a 2.35 60 ft time. That is a new best trap speed on the first pass, even though it was so hot and the engine was heat soaked, so it shows how much more power the 5spd has. Second run was a 14.3@98.2 on a 2.22 60 ft time. Better launch, but it was so damn hot that all my times were off. Last run was a 14.5@99mph with a 2.40 60 ft time. I sucked the launch bad, but the trap is impressive for the weather. I also beat a LT1 Z28 on that run by a car or two, so that was cool.
This is with none of the usual weight removal or track prep. We just went and ran. When we go back to Steele in the cooler weather with track prep I expect to trap over 100mph easily. The only new best I had as a 5spd over my auto was 1/4 mile trap speed. Everything else was slower. Maybe there will be one cooler day left this spring.

you are definately goin to see some good times with cool weather. I had to run yesteday in hot weather and was off by .4 and 4mph. You going to see 13's on streets with 101 traps I bet. Sweet! Man I really wish that all the "faster" 4th gen all motor guys could get together for a track day.....it would be soo much fun

I just realized I was gaining 22mph from 1/8th to 1/4 mile. That is a huge improvement over the automatic. I used to only gain 18-20mph. I wish I lived closer to the track so I could get some practice launching.

That trap speed is really good. The best I can manage is 96.xxxx. I hear your pain on wanting a track nearby. I have to drive a hour and a half for the closest track near me.
2.2 isn't bad for a 60'. but low 2.1's will drop your et close to 14.0-14.1.
Just keep practicing. Steele has been closed since they are re-surfacing the track. Should be open anyday though.
Congrats on the new best trap speed, which I am sure you will beat at Steele.

yea i can vouch for the horribly bad track, they would let the sub 12 sec cars run for 15min or more everyone of them doing a mickey thompson burnout, before they would let the street cars out there to deal with all the rubber.
many of us were running slower than stock, best i managed was a 15.922 @ 86.82 mph, 2.394 60'
6speedhayes was only running a 14.3 or so with drag radials and no back or front seat, spare and what not, he wasnt happy
worst part is i was the one who pushed everyone to go to the track and everyone ran horribly
i got to run a 11.5 sec camaro to my 16.00, he was getting his time slip when i reached to 1/8 mile

I just looked at my timeslips again, I am pretty excited about my first try. That last run was a 14.5 with a 2.4 60 ft time. That could have been a 14.1 with a 2.2 60 ft time. I need to get to the track again quick before it gets way too hot. speedemn hopefully you get your car worked out soon too, you are getting closer to 13's.
