Ses P1706?

I have a 2k 5spd and am getting a P1706 code from the computer. The description for the code is "Park / Neutral Position Switch".

Does anyone understand what this is telling me? This doesn't sound like something that applies to a 5spd car. I know that there is a switch so that the clutch must be depressed before cranking the car, but what switch is this code describing? Everything seems to be working fine with the car.

Thanks.

Yes, this applies to manuals also:

On Board Diagnosis Logic:
Malfunction is detected when the signal of the park/neutral position
(PNP) switch is not changed in the process of engine starting and
driving.

Possible Cause
-Harness or connectors
[The park/neutral position (PNP) switch circuit is open or
shorted.]
-Park/neutral position (PNP) switch

Thanks for the info.

Do you know what the actual function of the switch is?

Gear position to the ECU during ignition/injection/emissions/idle air control. Also, fuel cut and ECU learning.

I'm not sure what a malfuncion would harm if that's what you mean.
