Picked up car from Mechanic just NOW!
-2000 MAXIMA GLE-
My SES light came on. he diagnosed it. He said the scanner picked up like 5 ERRORS. He said he thinks its most like due to 2 parts.
SYMPTOMS : when i start the car, it would sometimes feel laggy at start. the engine would not rev up nicely at times. it would sorta sputter and then start after like 2 seconds. i felt alittle power loss aswell.(changed spark plugs 5k miles ago-shouldn't be a problem). Other than that car felt fine.
Mechanic changed:
Condensor $49
Relay $29
both OEM new nissan parts
I am unsure what error codes were there.
He said the SES light may come on again but most likely not. but he's not 100% sure.
He charged $ 95 for labor
TOTAL: $181
How much are these parts typically? Did He really rip me off in parts and/or labor? How long will it take to change those 2 parts on a car?
ANY INPUT or ADVICE IS APPRECIATED, THANKS!

I don't think it sounds that bad if he pulled 5 codes off of it. I usualy don't get worried unless it's over three hundred. How long have you taken your car there for? I only go to one place that I really trust.
60k mile service
been going there for about 3 years. My dad got alot of work done with them.
But we're still paying "Customers". So you never know.
The reason i question it is because last july i got $575 worth of stuff done (parts & labor) @ my 60k mile mark.
- 2 fan belts
-spark plugs
-oil change, oil filter
-complete checkup on engine & hoses and fluids
-resurfacing of front rotors & new front brake pads
@ 65k my rotors are warping again. He charged $70 just for brake pads install and resurfacing rotors(labor).
now i'm @ 67k with SES light problem.
please tell me if this and/or my SES light problem just now is a decent price.
thanks

first of all....I have no answer to your actual question, but I have a suggestion for you
Buy a Haynes shop manual or an OEM Nissan shop manual for your car.
Learn how to do many of these things that you are paying him to do. The average joe with a moderate amount of intelligence and minor amount of mechanical know-how can:
change his own oil
change his own spark plugs
check your fluid levels and hoses
and change your own brake pads.
I can do all of these things in a couple of hours in my driveway with basic tools. Yes, I have a good deal of automotive/mechinical know-how, but alot of it is self-taught and not that difficult.
Only thing on your list that you really can't do is resurface the rotors yourself. But many auto parts stores will resurface them for a minimal charge ($5) if you bring them in. They are VERY easy to remove if you have a second car to drive to the auto store.
yeah I know that wasn't your question, but that's my answer...sorry.

that's a pretty good mechanic you have there nailz.....Fusion, I would suggest you not take his advice. The light isn't going on just for the helluvit.....although it may not be any major problem, and it may not hurt the car at all.....do you really want to take that risk?

Next time MIL comes on go to AutoZone and pull the codes yourself with their scanner. Then find what the codes are here or with google as sloppy suggested. I got sick of paying a mechanic to do what I could do for a fraction of the price, not to mention the satisfaction of fixing it myself.
