I posted a thread like this a few months ago, but now I have some new info that might help you guys diagnose my problem. Last summer I had my tranny replaced, and when I got the car back I could hear the engine revs coming through the speakers. This led me and others to believe that a ground wire could have come loose, or something like that. Since then I've had my grounds checked, and had a grounding kit put on.

At first, the guy who did my stereo just turned the levels down on my speaker amp to solve the problem. Last week I decided with the new grounding kit I would try and turn the speaker amp up again. I turned the amp up, and the engine whine came back. However, I realized it only comes out the front speakers, and not the rear. What would cause it to do this? I'm clueless right now.

On another note, on my Pioneer HU, the display screen which allows me to change the levels on the speakers only (not subs) comes and goes at random. Months ago it was gone, it came back for a while, and it's gone again right now. One friend of mine suggested that it might only come on if the amp is working, but since I could change the volume manually on the speaker amp as mentioned above, I doubt he's correct. Has anyone had a problem like this before with their Pioneer HU? I don't understand how an entire screen could disappear.

sounds like some bad grounds in the system, even if u've checked them i'd suggest re doing it, or just play ur music loud enough that you dont hear it... thats what i do

 

Just curious, did you watch the install? Were the RCA's run along the same side as your power wire? Do you have TV's and are you using an FM modulator?

 

I didn't watch the install, no. I don't have a TV or FM modulator. For the ground wires, are there any ones you guys know of around the tranny? I know you need to take a lot of other stuff too...but I don't know where else the stock ground wires are.

 

is it a 4 channel amp? if so, are there two sets of RCA cords feeding from the HU to the amp(1 for fronts, 1 for rears)? If so, they swapping them on the amp. put the wires feeding the front inputs onto the rear inputs and vise versa. If the whine moves to the rear speakers, then your amp is fine. try regrounding the HU. If the whine stays in front, try regrounding grounding your amp. best suggestions I can think of at this moment. Keep me posted. I'll try to offer suggestions as you test it. Also, what brand of wires did you use? SOme cheaper ones don't have good shielding and could cause this problem also.

 

I switched the wires and the whine went to the rear. So the first thing to do it re-ground the HU?

 

dang! i forgot about this thread! I would try regrounding the radio. while you have it out, swap the RCA cables on the radio (like you did on the amp) and see if the hum moves to the other speakers. could also be the wires.

i just went through this ,what are kind of rca cables are you running? I was running walmart brand and was picking up a lot of wine I paid a little more for stinger helix rca's and fixed my problem

 

I;m not sure what brand they are, I didn't do the install. I will also look into that.

 

I had this exact same problem with my max. This is because I ran my RCA's on the same side as my power wires. I switched to monster cable RCA's and moved them to the other side of the car than the power wire and it completely solved the problem. If you have already regrounded all your equipment, then I doubt that it is the grounding. Since you said that the whine moved to the back when you switched the inputs, I am sure that you need to buy heavily shielded RCA cables and make sure that they are ran on the opposite side of your car as your power wire.
