part number 90915-YZZA2 to help reduce the VTC noise? I'm going out tomarrow to Toyota, to go and get that filter, and I wanted to be abosolutely positive that the toyota filter will not harm my car.thanx guys!

 

im a user. it quiets the ticking for about 1500 miles...then slowly get louder till 3k and the oil change. darn vtc's anyway..

Fram is junk. I wish I had read about oil filters before I changed the one in my SE the first time. I had no VTC noise at all and then I changed my oil and used a fram filter because I had always been told they were good to use on my race motors (SB Chevys) by engine builders.

Well right after that my VTCs started clicking. It may have been a coincidence but from what I have read I dont think so.

 

I used the Toyota filter, but my VTCs were ticking pretty bad before and I didn't really notice a difference. I think if my VTCs were not ticking, I would use the Toyota filter as a type of preventative maintenence.

Recently, I just put on a NAPA Gold filter and I am just going to stick with those until I get a new engine, since my Toyota dealer raped me on their filter (I think it was around $9).

right after the first change using that filter, valve clatter at startup was gone.

 

I use the yota filter or pureone, both good filters.

 

just started useing it last week althought i didnt have any reason to switch but it works fine

Always used FRAM on all of my family's cars, never had a problem. Had FRAM on 2 maximas now...still no ticking....

No really. Fram is junk. Made my VTCs tick more than any other filter. Read the fluids/lubricant section. Fram is junk period

thanx for all the info guys!!! I just went out and bought one and I'm going to install it first thing tomarrow. I'll keep you guys updated as to weather it helped get rid of the noise or made it worse. Unfortunately it cost me $5.60 with tax at Crown Toyota here in SoCal. I was hoping it would cost a little less, but no biggie.

I used fram on my Maxima too, no Vtc ticking here, so far. Knock on wood, but hmm i'll be considering switching over to that toyota filter what do i have to loose, still have another 2000 to go with this fram filter im using. I got the most expensive one there is, it claims to go for atleast 7000 miles but im not doin that, im just goin to replace it when my 3000 miles are up. By the way i got my car at 119000 put castrol syntec in it made a big difference, but now i put mobil one in it and my max loves it. Well i might be considering a new oil filter now. Didn't know frams sucked that much, but so far so good no problems. I hope it stays that way, the vtc ticking problem gives me nightmares, i will cringe when i hear them ticking, I have 130000 miles now,well next time im gettin the toyota filter.

I have only owned my Max for 6 months and with low miles for the year (100k), there are no VTC issues. I have been getting the oil changed at Nissan so far for lack of time, but plan on switching to the Toyota filter soon. Its just that, that thing seems too darn small for our engines and no one here seems to have used it long enough to say for sure that they do not cause long-term issues. Or am I mistaken? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

 

Hey, the only reason I use this filter is because of this study. Read it for yourself.

 

I use the toyota brand on the one I must recently bought because it has the ticking problem. Which the toyota one quiet down until its time to change the oil again. On my other max, I use KN and because its always been the brand I use on my dad's old max (doesn't have the ticking problem because its been very well taken care of). personally I like the toyota one if the VTC are going bad.

 

I don't think you can use a small filter like a Toyota on a VG. There is a metal tube that runs the length of the filter in the middle. I read the FAQS and it shows that Fram has half the filter element, wouldn't a filter half the size (Toyota) run into the same problem?

 

well i put the toyota oil filter on yesterday and I didn't notice much of a difference in the noise department regarding less clattering from my VTC's. Oh well, It was worth a shot.

 

Relax....It is the first time user for your max to get used to the toyota filter. Give it some time.

I originally researched this for the VE30DE. My source did NOT mention a x-reference to the VG maxima. Might work fine. Might not. Best to make sure.
