i just was just wondering if there is a difference between the JDM and american 300zx engine (the 84-88 single turbo engines, VG30DET) ? i may be getting one to put in an older z /w a blown engine. i thought about putting it in my max ... but not thinking to much about it. so if you could just tell me a little about the 2, that would help. thanks so much.

84-88 is a VG30E/T not a DE

 

If you get a hold of a vg30det, it is a dohc engine very simliar to the vg30dett, but has MUCH larger ports.

 

depending what car its coming out of in Japan(Cedric or Gloria???)...the JDM VG30ET might look like



and before one of you says, thats a Maxima motor...no its not, but it does use the same dual TB and upper intake mani setup as the Maxima....you could even swap on the Z upper and lower intake mani and turbo feed pipe if that makes it easier. I think ShadyZ or someone on here has done this swap into their Z31 300zx using this motor completely.

also, radiator fan and mounting issues aside this setup looks to bolt nicely into the Maxima...for some non-intercooled goodness.

 

that's the one i bought. if you make a custom motor mount you can drop it in just like that i believe. i'm still working on making a different mount but have been too busy to do it at the moment.

 

why not an intercooled set up? is it really hard or something.?
