Bose speakers make whistling noise???

The bose speakers on my 98 maxima se make a whistling/interference noise that moves with acceleration. It has been this way since I bought the car several months ago. Does anyone know what this is and/or how to fix this problem.

Sounds like alt. whine. I agree with imlikewoe, if you can afford it, get rid of the BOSE and pur a real stereo in. The Bose is an absolute joke of a system. Except for the one in the TL, now that BOSE system is decent. my 2 cents.

Have the same problem

I have the same problem bransby3, i have been wondering about this for months and finally a thread pops up about it. i never thought of the alternator but my max only have 48k miles on it (99 SE). It goes in and out and varies in intensity. I have noticed that when my headlights are on, the noise intensifies, and when they are off, the noise is less. Also the noise gets louder and more annoying when i have the heater or a/c on. How would i got about solving this? A new alternator or could i just replace speakers, oh btw, it is only my drivers side front speaker that is doind it, and yes i have bose. Could i just replace the one speaker, or is the problem more complex? i am planning to get a full aftermarket system (hopefully JL) soon, but i hate dealing with this noise. If it is something like an alternator, which is expensive, then it isn't worth it and i will have to just deal with it. But ne ways is this common for maximas? Thanks

Andy

I had the same problem in the infinity system in my rx7... I found out that it was one of the grounds to the frame that is supposed to silence all electric noises the car makes through the frame because of all the currents going through different parts..... and if a ground somewhere throughout the system isnt grounding any more, you'll get the whining noise.... it may be a different thing, but that's what happened with me...

I had alternator whine in my other car(after market setup) There was no whine in the stock stereo. Someone suggested that I use a capacitor to get rid of the alternator whine, and it did. I've heard many people complain about alternator whine but its the first time that I heard it happening in a stock stereo.

alternator whine can be lessened with some products sold at stereo stores, don't remember the name. Grounding electrical components can also help. Some cars have more problems naturally. Sometimes sparkplug wires can do it more than other brands. The other thing to think about is that a dying alternator diode can cause this sound- My 94 GXE Bose had this whine start up all of a sudden. Within a month or so the alternator was dead. Something to consider. Otherwise, maybe replace that speaker/amp.
