brake caliper paint

i wanted to paint my brake calipers red to match my car color. I think it would look good and i saw a $20 painting kit on ebay. is this kit okay to use and safe for the brakes? also, i have never done anything like this before, is it an easy procedure to paint the calipers, or would i be better off leaving them alone?

I just used Duplicolor engine enamel and clear coat from Autozone for like $3 a can. Works good. You can check out my site for pics

It's easy to do, just take wheels off, cover up what you don't want painted (wheel well, strut, etc.) and spray on the coats of paint.

It's real easy, just takes whole day. You just gotta make sure paint is well dried before next spray. You'll love it when it's done.
what color are you getting?

I just used engine paint too. It holds up real well. Check out page 3 of my homepage to see how they look.

Engine enamel is designed to withstand serious temperatures/conditions, it will hold up on your calipers well. $3 for Red Engine enamel and another $3 for clearcoat engine enamel and you are set.

you can paint them on the car, just make sure you cover up rotors and other parts real good so no paints get on them. oh and also make sure you get a good car wash after paint is well dried.
and there is no need to paint the back side of the caliper since nobody can see it

because when you spray your paint, it fly in to air and later it lands on your car. you can actually feel the paint on surface of the car. but you don't have to worry about it. one car wash will get rid of them

Nope...just spray the paint on to the caliper, just take the wheels off, clean the calipers REAL good, you should sand them too. Then spray the paint on, like someone said no one will see the back of the caliper...

It's hard to get all that build up of brake pad dust off. What did you do to clean the calipers? Any methods? What kind of fluids or cleaners did you use?

Just some typical Brake Cleaner I picked up at Autozone...that plus some washes with dishwashing detergent and water. Kept scrubbing and rinsing till I could rub my finger on the caliper without getting any dirt on my finger.

Takentomax, I just used some engine degreaser and a wheel brush to wash all that stuff off. You could practically eat off of the caliper when I was done.

Then, just use some duplicolor paint from autozone, and to make it shine a little more, get the high temp clear coat. You got to be careful with that though......it takes like an hour to dry. The other paint should not take so long.
