tire seems to be locked and does not spin. axle??

i jacked the front of my max up and ran it up to second gear, to find out the passenger front tire does not spin. it seems to be locked up. the driver side tire is spinning fine. i know i'm going to have to take it to a mechanic, but i just want to know what type of job this is. it's also making a loud scraping noise thats driving me crazy. can somebody help me out in letting me know what my problem seems to be.
thanks

Did you take the wheel off? Your caliper MAY be stuck...but not likely. Have you been hard on the brakes? Take the wheel off and see what the brakes look like, and then try to run it in 1st ger w/ the wheel off.

i didn't run it with the wheel off, but i watched the axle shaft on both sides and the drivers side spun, but the passenger side didn't.

When you have it jacked up, can you spin the wheel by hand?

First check the brake caliper. It may be stuck.

I had a similar problem recently and it turned out that the outside brakepad had gotten stuck at an angle and was rubbing firmly against the rotor. The rotor had been complete worn uneven by it.

Had to replace the rotor and pads.

Have you been experiencing any weird noises lately from that side?

See if there is any dark gray grease splattered all over the wheel well area.
If so, the CV boot may have torn and your joint there may be damaged.

i tried spinning it with my hand, but i wouldn't budge. i was changing my brakes and this is came i found out about the problem. the shaft that spins the tire didn't move either, that's why i'm thinking it's maybe the axle, but hoping something minimal.

also the rims that i have on the car doesn't come close to touching the caliper. there is a loud annoying scraping noise while diving, but no grease or oil spots. the boot is also intact.

Hmm, I doubt your gears in your tranny are gone. I'm guessing it's not driveable. But, you may wana try a new axle. Those gears/teeth dont mess up easy though.
