Name brand bulbs

Are name brand bulbs, such as Polarg and PIAA, worth the extra money? I'm looking at replacing all the bulbs in my car and see plenty of cheap knockoffs (especially headlight bulbs) on eBay.

check out the MTEC's. Apparently they are very similar to the PIAAs for a lot less.

I see people complain about aftermarket bulb burnouts all the time. I bought polargs for my turn signals and corner markers and I'm coming up on a year with no burnouts.

personally, I don't trust generic ebay stuff. there's some exceptions, but for the most part you get what you pay for.

Polarg 168s are alright, but the dome light sucks. I just got it today and am very disappointed. I'm sure piaas are way better, and i wouldn't get cheapo ones over stock.

ebay bulbs suck. I have philips xtra vision bulbs, and like them, little brighter than stock. I wanted a good bulb without any blue tint to it.

Thanks for the input. After scanning the forums for similar topics, I'm avoiding those el cheapo bulbs. The ol' "you get what you pay for" seems to definately apply to bulbs!

Philips has been in business since the early 1900s.

And they have mucho dinero to research lighting.

I'd go with them instead of some el cheapo company or PIAA where you're just paying for a name.

My eBay ricer bulbs were brighter than my Philips BlueVisions, but I couldn't see crap them.

Besides, anyone who pays $60 for some light bulbs is either stupid or filthy rich.

Because no smart man would pay $60 for bulbs when they aren't twice as bright as some $25 bulbs and no regular joe would blow $60 on some friggin light bulbs.

Do not get Eurolite or other knockoff brands...I blew 3 sets of headlights in the last year.

let me clarify, my piaas are bright. suck in the rain. great otherwise.

if i didn't have fog lights i would rather be stock instead of the piaas.

i'm happy with the money i spent. and having heard of so many bulbs failing i decided to go with what is know as, as far as i know, as some of the best lights around, as long as you don't consider price as a major factor.

a good set of aftermarket fog lights can be a much better purchase then headlight bulbs imo(angel eyes are hot too).

the piaas also matched perfectly with my upgraded rewired side headlight bulbs.

The only bulbs worthy of the money are perhaps the main headlight ones.

Buying name brand for the dome, brake, parking, turn etc is just unneccessary but to each his own.

Personally I will no longer look at any bulb with a blue/purple coat on it of any kind, including the silverstars and all those name brand PIAAs. I have suffered the craze myself and looking back it was a wastage of my funds, but heck, you gotta do it. It's just one of those things.

I agree . . . buying hyperwhites IMO are not worth it. I'd take stock halogens over any "hyperwhite" headlight bulb. HID's are one thing, but fake HIDs are tacky and take away class from the car. Not to mention you can't see a damn thing with those lights in the rain. Whats the point?

isn't the point to see better 90% of the time?

i'd say at night it rains 10%, if that, where i live.

90% of the time i'm seeing better with my piaas....

Right now I actually have one "hyper white" ricer bulb and one oem bulb on the car. With the oem bulb, there is far more light output and visibility seems better over the ricer bulb at night.
