poor HVAC blower fan performance...

Do the 4th gens typically have subpar HVAC blower motors, or is it just mine? When I comapare my '97SE to my mothers '89 Max, the air coming out of her vents on the highest setting is almost hurricane force, lol. In my max, even on the highest fan setting, I just don't think the air is as forceful as it should be. Anyone else feel this way?

A/C in general

I have not been happy with the A/C system in my 99 SE-L. Have to keep the recirc button pushed all the time to get really cold air. Blower is adequate but could be improved. Stealership stated, after functional check, that using recirc button is not unusual but I think that's B$ as my wife's 97 4-runner SEV6 will freeze you out no matter if the recirc is on or not. My sister-in-law has an 02 max and I noticed her's was sadly lacking in performance as well. Must not get too hot in Japan !

We obviously need a larger or more powerful blower motor but I have not had time to research it...will most likely be a time consuming job exchanging the blower not to mention electrical compatibility which I am definately not an expert. Anyone else have some ideas?

Apparently it's not too hard a job, but then again, a friend did it on his Toyota and only had to go to the firewall to rip it out. Suppose it's different for the Maxima.

Has anyone had anyone else had issues with the weak HVAC output? Even in our mild climate, jacking the A/C to full blast in recirculated mode warranted slow cooling where my little Escort wagon would blow frost at setting 2

Our blowers are inherently noisy, and the all-plastic housing doesn't help. but then again, if it ain't broke don't fix it. The noise started on my car at around 15k, when it was around 14 months old.

Uhh...the temperature of the air has nothing to do with the blower.

There can be a couple reasons. You may need to recharge your system. Your compressor may be on the crapper (yes, it will burn out if you leave the A/C on and rev it up to a high RPM). Evap canister may need to be replaced. You could have a tiny tiny pin hole in your condensor. A/C systems are kinda complex...

Well, the dude who started the thread was asking about the fan, not the a/c.

I have no complaints with the fan's cfm. It is a noisy focker though.

The a/c is a b1tch to come on. I've learned I have to turn on auto, then not touch anything as loud and annoying as full speed fan noise is. After a minute it cools down and turns the fan down to the third or second setting anyway.

What he's saying is that it doesn't matter how hard the fan blows. If the A/C system isn't operating properly you're still gonna be hot.

but if the a/c is working ok and the fan is not blowing enough to circulate cool air to the back seats is not good either but back to the post where talking about poor blower performance like [B]Dayle97SE[B] posted and some of us have

Mine blows pretty hard on #4 setting. I want to say if you have manual climate control its better than that automatic crap. I think the auto HVAC plays around with the settings on you.

There is a manual/automatic mode with auto climate controls where the system maintains the desired temp. but you can control the fan speed manually.
