single most unreliable car in history!

my max breaks often, maybe i have bad luck, but it's something really strange this time. A few days ago, it would start and then die on me, like the fuel pump was broken, after towing the car to my house, i went to turn the key and it started! I didn't do anything to it. So, I assumed it was a temporary problem but today, the same thing happened to me, it would start, and then right away die, after my dad came again to two me home, i went to turn the key and for some odd reason, it started!!! So basically, it starts sometimes and sometimes it doesnt, it sounds like some loose electrical connector or something.

Any suggestions, cause I'm stumped......

My car didn't start once. I had it towed, but when we got to the destination, it started up.
So I drive it a while, took my GF to a nice restuarant. After dinner, it doesn't start again.
By this time, I don't call a tow and just have my friend take us home... how embarrassing.

Turnes out. My starter was going out.
I got that fixed and it's been great ever since.

if you ever have that problem with the starter again, just hit it with a hammer or any other solid object, give it a couple good whacks and it should start

Ouch! If I had my ride, I'd check for you, but it's in the shop. So going off of memory I think it's in like the lower left somewhere. Definatley not the last fuse though. Just go through em all make sure there all seated good or not on the brink of blowing out.

Good luck!

So the car would turn on(start to idle) and tehn die? or did the starter stop spinning?
Make sure all your intake hoses are nice and secure.

I looked on your 96 fuse block layout. There are 3 columns of active fuses plus one of spare fuses. Look at the right column (next to the spares) and counting from the bottom going up are fuse #27 (10A), 28 (7.5A), 29 (10A), 30 (10A), 31 (10A), 32 (15 A) , 33 (7.5A), and so on.

I hope this is your problem.

a bad fuel pump can have the same symptoms. if it's not starting now, take your gas cap off, put your ear near the filler hole, have some one turn the key to "on" only, don't crank. you should hear a slight humming from the pump for just a couple of seconds. if not , you need a fuel pump. sometimes they get jogged loose while being towed, and will start a few times. but are still bad. hope this helps.

never mind! got stranded in san francisco today because of coming to stupid conclusions yesterday. i guess it wasnt fuse #32 after all, because i kept moving it around but to no avail.
to answer your question, yes, the starter turns over very well, it is brand new, but the engine starts and then dies. after a while, it just turns over without starting like there's no gas coming to the engine.
anyway, would it be possible for the car to start sometimes and not start other times if the fuel pump is broken.
anyway, this sucks, i cant even rely on the car to be a daily driver anymore.
any suggestions?????????????????????????????????

I agree with Ceasar... sounds to me like a bad connection to the battery terminals. you should look into that.
