Paint color

Hello,

I have a Canadian '97 maxima that I got used and there are some rust spots that I'd like to remove and paint over. The original colour is best described as a greyish-eggplant something-or-other.

My question is: how do I find out the exact color code that I need to use?
I went to a dealership and they gave me something that, after application, looks somewhat off (too light). I don't expect it to be undetectable but it has to be close.

Also, any hints about how to go about it are more than welcome (as long as the tools and materials are available in Canada).

Thank you!

I think you ought to be able to find it at www.paintscratch.com

Otherwise, there are some threads on here that give sites of where to find it. Probably in the FAQ's or in the general forum.

Thanks. The closest match that I found is the "Purple Metallic Clearcoat" LS6, which is the one that I got from the dealer. However, the color sample on the page does not look anything like the actual color of the car (or the touch-up).

It says the color on the firewall. It's on a silver plate attached to the firewall inside the engine bay on the passenger side.

Just look for something similar on the firewall plate.
