Car Wont start
Car Wont start
Hi,
I have a 1993 Nissan Maxima and I just bought the car. 1 day after i bought the car I locked the keys in the car with the keys in the ignition. The next day after i got the keys out of the car, i tried to start the car and it would not start. The clock was off and all i heard was a tick tick noise when i tried to start it. I went to Wal mart and got a new battery, and the car would start again.
The car drives fine for a week or so and I go outside to try and start the car and it wont start, the clock is off again and when i try to crank the car it wont start or make any noise. I can jump the car off from another car and it will start the car up. Can anybody tell me what is wrong????? I need help

sounds like your alternator might not be charging. The old battery was probably ok too, just would have needed to be charged up.
Can check whether or not the alternator is working by getting a multimeter and checking the voltage across the battery. it should get to around 14V when the car is revving at least, if it stays around 11 or 12 then the alternator isn't charging.
If you don't understand any part of this, then go to your local garage and ask them to test your alternator for you!

alternator or battery is my guess. I doubt it is a defective battery. Likely the alternator died, and you then had the battery die. Of course it could be many other things, but since it starts fine with a jump, I'm guessing a dead battery due to a bad alternator. But make sure the starter works ok and doesn't require an excess amount of power.
