pushed VG farther than ever before to date...

going to san francisco about a week ago to pick up a fresh dashboard for my S14, i was on a very vacant stretch of the 101 going northbound past san louis abisbo. i was averaging about 90mph, and i found myself occasionally creeping up to 100-110 during some miles. this is rather normal for highway driving, so i thought nothing of it. yet the cops were out in force that day -my radar dectector lighting up like a christmas tree every few miles it seemed.

nonetheless, at a certain moment and stretch of land, and having never done this before, i floored the gas pedal from about 120mph onwards as i felt the maxima surging ahead. i couldn't believe it, as there was actual power on tap at this speed. the needle just swept past the numbers on the speedometer, marching past 125 into the white void area, all the way to touching the "y" on the "unleaded fuel only" part. at that spot, the car must have been going at least 135, possibly a bit faster as that place on the gauge exceeds the 'counting by fives' incremental readings. it may have been at around 138-142mph.

later, as i pulled into a gas station, a cop came from nowhere and gave me a ticket. happily, he only caught me going 110, and he reduced it to only 80 in a 65, as he liked me as we changed the subject, talking about cars as i pumped gas. for me, the $300 ticket was well worth the thrill.

right. i get the acutual "bail notice" soon. that will confirm what i must pay. the cop said it will be around $300. and the ticket has not posted yet at superior court, so, actually, i don't know the actual amount.

whatever it is, it will suck. i could have used the money for something else.

Why not just pay some cash and go to a track for a day? Around here you can pay $50 for a full day of road course time and even have instructors in the car with you who will help you with your track times.

At the same time I have to confess, I've had mine up to 135 or so and got a little nervous with hood shuddering like mad and I slowed down.

you young 'uns. In time, after a couple of $200+ tickets, you will realise that you could have had a valentine 1 radar detector plus a few more toys to go that speed safely.

i bet you thought i was going to chastise you about speed

well, i am an idiot. and now, a recovering idiot. i cannot have any more points. i already must go to traffic school now, as this will be my 4th point. after that, it gets suspended.

my car stayed straight as a bullet. it did not flinch any. the suspension is modified. at those speeds, above say 120, things get weird. the outside seemed to become altered, like it was fake or in susupended animation.

i admit, i was going way too fast, but it doesn't top bryan h. nobody does. he is the alpha-speeder. at least i'm part of the empty glory of the 135+ club.

You're right about having a good radar detector, I have a Passport 8500 and it works great Don't ask me how but even before I had the radar I hadn't had a ticket in two years. I guess I'm just lucky.

nearly every time i get a ticket, it is because the cop follows me and i never even notice -nearly every time this is the case. after all the precautions i take, with radar and laser detecting and a good eye in the rear-view mirror, i get stalked when i least expect it.

sigh...

Where did you get the "above 125 it goes faster than 5mph increments" logic?

i think you either did not understand what i meant or you are confusing yourself. if you look at the remaing white void space after the 125mph mark, all the way to the "y," it is the distance of an arc on the dial about the equivalent of ten more miles per hour, actually a little more, almost i'd say to 140mph to the "y."

in another way, if nissan would have continued numbering the dial all the way to the "y," it would be about 135 to 140mph.

west coast, at least cali, is different in "points-awarded." i used to live in atlanta, ga. i recall there that you'd get like 2 or 3 points a pop for anything at all. here you get only one. and for some offenses you'd get points for on the east coast, you don't get any here. so here, 4 points is a lot.

not necessarily. say you were in the 5th gen. and it can go about 175mph. i can still be in the 135+club if i have broken that barrier in that car. but i did it in my car. and it seems more fun to talk about it in the VG case, since it is the blacksheep of the family.

did you get a ticket, too? i bet the VE can get up to about 155-160. i think matt did that.

135 is a nice speed have done 150+ in my old 1991 300zx but it felt like it was at home at that speed. my maxima i dont think that i would try it in atm since 80 and a corner has way to much body flex. However at 150 you can make it from Montgomery to Birmingham in like 30 minutes.

i've emerged from tight cloverleafs going 90mph with it. it is lowered and modified. i would not recommend 135 as a normal way of life, though.

I think we are done talking about highly illegal speeding in the maxima.
