Weird Symptoms...Best Battery if necessary?

Hey guys.
Let me explain some of the symptoms that my car has been showing to see if you can diagnose the problem.

A couple of weeks ago, I was at the track and after a couple of the runs, when I would shift into neutral after the 1/4 mile run, my car would die totally. It would just turn off. I would have to stop it and re-crank. It only did it like twice and has not done it since.

Well, a couple of days ago, it had a little trouble starting. It was kind of just like ruh ruh ru rummmmmm.....and then it cranked up. It has done this a couple of times in the past couple of days.

Do you think it is:
1. the battery
2. the alternator

If it is the battery:
1. what is the best one to get and why?
2. or should I just go for a decent one and not the "best?"

Shed some light on this if you can.
I think I will be going to autozone this afternoon to get it checked out.
Thanks,

I've experienced the same thing with my European model with 2.0 V6 engine which is 98% the same engine except for the lesser displacement. In my case the problem was the idle-air screw was set too low. It's the black plastic screw on top of the intake-manifold close to the throttle-body. Anyway, turning it counterclockwise 1 - 1 1/2 turns cured the problem. Has never happened again (9 months ago). BTW, the idle speed will not increase because the computer controls it...

20V6, you experience what? The dying while driving or racing like me? or the not cranking?

Anyone else?

Sorry!

I was referring to the dying of the engine.... After driving it hard followed by a quick stop it would die, like you said yours did...

The starter problem I'm unfamiliar with...

Update:
I just went to Autozone to check out the battery and the alternator and check for codes.
Battery: Good
Alternator: Good
ECU Codes: None

Now I guess I just want to know what is the best battery when I do have to get one.
My brother was telling me about the Optima Red Top Battery. They are really expensive, but they are supposed to be the best. Anyone have info they could share about this?

I don't have any specifics -but I thought the Optima batteries didn't fit perfectly into the battery bay under our hood.. is this true?

When I repleced my battery, I went with Interstate - they make excellent batteries and are the OEM supplier for many auto-makers - Nissan included (at least as far as I know).
