ATTN: People with rear window spoilers... how do you get it to hold?

.. I have a half size rear window spoiler for my 5th gen. At 1st, I tried to attach it using the tape that was provided with it. It almost fell off after 2 days, good thing i saw it and took it off before i lost it while driving.

Then I used heavy duty 3M mounting tape that i used for my body kit, I put it on last night, it's already coming off today...

any ideas? wanted to see if anyone else had these problems...

Hey I just wanted to tell you that i went to your www, and you have a nice looking max.......that black sets it off nice and settle....especially with the 2k2/2k3 rims.......was the trim around your windows chrome or black stock? i don't remember on the 2k how it came.........

i'm interested to see how the rear window spoiler would look on that also........not sure about how to get it to stay well.....maybe some strong adhesive might work.....if on glass shouldn't be to hard to get off if you decide to remove it....

later

No, I definitely cleaned it well.. both of the times i tried to attach it...

that isn't the issue.. it's that tape doesn't stick to glass

thanks, I appreciate the kind words.

The trim was chrome on all 5th gens. I used "trimbrite" blackout tape.. it sells in any pepboys/autozone or any chain auto parts store. They sell it in rolls, i think you need 3 to do both sides.. you need to carefully apply it and cut off the excess tape. This stuff holds excellent and you can never tell it was chrome underneath..

as for the window spoiler, i used pretty heavy duty stuff.. still doesn't hold.

I had the same 'not sticking' with my full sized spoiler. I got some 3M mounting tape. Get the stuff with the red backing - it's the strongest adhesive. I don't think my spoiler will ever come off now!

If your temp is less than about 60 degrees, try heating up the rear window glass a bit with a hair dryer before you install it.

before you put it on take a blowdryer and heat up the tape. Then stick it to the window. That is what I did when I put my window thingys on.

Reason being it will get stickier when you heat it up.

Check 3M's website for this stuff called adhesive promotor. It's the same stuff that most dash kit company gives you to prep the plastic dash pieces before applying their kit. Once you stick it on...you won't able to move it at all.

I had the same problem on my 4th gen, but I have a full size one. Used many tapes and nothing worked. I waited for my car to warm up on the sun throughout the day and then later on I attached it. Used the 3M tape with the red backing. I think it said it could hold up to 3 pounds or something like that. I got in Home Depot. Good Luck.
