I have heard from some performance shops here in town that a good boost in HP is changing the Maxima Cams with those of a 300ZX!!! Has anybody done that to there car??? If so any noticable improvements??? Does anybody know if it is possible. Because I pretty positive it is the same engine...I'm just wondering if you for see any problems.

Thanks,
John

It is the same engine and people do interchange 300zx parts with maxima, but I have never heard of them doin that.

Good Idea

Yeah I've been all around the web asking people and mechanics...and waiting for responses myself...So I will keep you posted too...and that is a great Idea about the Stillen CAMs. Never thought of that...I like it.

I've never heard of the Maxima and 300z engines being the same. That's new to me. I've been told that the 300z (not TT) is the same motor as the J30, not I30. I could be wrong though.

Could be. What are the specs on the J30's engine?

The 300zx doesn't use the VQ engine, so the cams probably won't be the same. I think some of the 3rd gen SEs use the 300zx motor, but the VQ is only in the Maxima and I30.

Ok I see. Guess you can't switch the cams.

The Z32(90-96 300zx) cams will fit in the 92-94 Maxima SE engine only. The Z31(84-89 300zx) cams will fit in VG powered(89-94 GXE's and 89-91 SE's) only. At the current time there are no VQ cams..
