My friend is picking up a new Lexus IS 300. I can't wait to get on the line next to him. Only question is can I beat him? I will let you know.

Are you auto?

If you're auto it should be very close...but I give the edge to the IS. 0-60mph in 7.1. And off the line, it's RWD should give it the jump.
If you're 5-spd, then you should win.
Of course, race before he breaks in the car...that way he won't push it too hard.:P

That's what worries me.

I'm AUTO. Maybe I will threaten him with my 93SE, that's a 5spd. I'm afraid my 93SE will blow the doors off my 97SE auto...

I walked one pretty nicely on the freeway from 60-120. Dunno about off the line though...prob. depend on driver. I have a 97 SE with just intake & exhaust.

If it's auto to auto, I won't put money on either one, it's too close that either result is normal, depends on the driver.

In an acceleration test the Max with 5 speed should win time after time. If your talkin handling then the Lexus IS should have us spanked pretty easy. The IS looks pretty impressive but I'm not too sure about its straight line performance.

If it's auto to auto, it will be close but I think the IS will win. I test drove an IS on the streets and through the autocross at Edmunds Live and it felt very quick.

If it's auto (IS) vs. 5-spd (Max), I think it will be a toss up. Despite people here who will say that a 4th gen can do 0-60 in 6.5s, I think that figure is closer to the 7.1s that other mags have recorded. So, 7.1s auto IS and 7.1s 5-spd Max...at least it will be a fun race.

But once you hit the curves, the IS will leave the Max in the dust. The one I drove in the autocross absolutely killed the I30t in comparison. But both were still fun to drive.
