Other drivers are messing with me...

First off let me say that I am probably a semi-aggressive driver. I am not rude or careless, but I like to get where I am going, and since upgrading from a 4cy Accord to Da Max, I do seem to be getting there a bit faster.

That having been admitted, since I got my Max about a month ago, I swear that drivers of certain other vehicles are messin' with me on the road. I would describe these incidents as non-verbal statements that "my car is faster than yours" without actually engaging in racing. Especially VW drivers...

Is this just my imagination, or are there lots of guys (so far no gals) that are looking for an excuse to make such statements with little more provocation than me blowing past them in the fast lane...

VW's suck. VW's had the worst reviews in recent surveys, mainly because many of them, including the ugly and extremely unreliable beetle, were and still are made in Mexico, NOT Germany.

I can sort of relate to all this because my sister's bf drove a 99 passat, which needed constant maintenance and repair. He now has an Audi A6 TT and is much, much happier. My other friend drove a late model GTI, which also kept on breaking. He now drives a g35 sedan and is also much happier.

Now, I know a bunch (literally a bunch) of people who drive Jetta's. These cars are such POS that I won't even comment.

I raced (stock for stock) Jettas, GTI's, Passats (all of which were 5-spd) and none of which stood a chance with my Maxima. Go ahead and race these ******* and you'll see for urself.

I would say "good luck", but you won't even need it.

I was always getting messed with as well, manely be Civics and Eclipses, I have not lost to any of them that have tried but they continued until I started to finaly "rice" out my car with the Skyline front end, wheeles and exhaust. Now when I want to challenge someone they all seem to shy away. Saturday night I tested 6 riceres and only received a slight challenge from an Intrepid that couldnt stay up when I hit the 120 mark. I beleive its the whole "family car" thing and they see it as an easy challenge since even I only notice a custom Max every couple of weeks it seems. So, ultimatly they just dont know.

VW owns Audi... and the by the way, the Audi TT chassis is the VW Beetle chassis... which is made in Mexico

i had a 99 passat 1.8t before i got my max. it was assembled in germany, and of course, all of the engine parts were stamped with the audi rings, since it is all the same crap. i never had one reliablilty problem with it, while two of my friends, one who has a jetta, and the other with a gti, had their cars at the dealer on a monthly basis to have electrical gremlins worked out. for the record, my passat was waaay slower than the maxima. moral of this post - anything built in mexico sucks, anything built in japan or germany rocks my face

I disagree. but i also agree.
When people ask what kind of car i drive i tell them i have a 97 maxima.
They always say "oh they are pretty fast" and these people aren't into the import scene.

You are right though, civics and other small tuners dont like to race us. Maybe they think we are to easy a challenge, or maybe they are affraid that their high reving peanut engines will get pooped on by 3.0 litres.

I'm not talking about heavily modded engines obviously, but i always Schitt on accords and civics. Especially on the highway. I also gave a G35 sedan a nice run for his money. Granted he caught up after about 20 seconds of him being behind by 3 cars, but i had 3 passengers, and he was alone.

i raced a 95 1.8t 5 speed, or a gti, i dont know that much about them. i am auto. From a stop until around 70 i beat him over 1 car length. They can keep up. When he came out of his car to talk, he quickly asked if i had a turbo! Then i noticed his shirt said 'Got Boost', so maybe he was spraying...

Max's are fun, reliable fast cars and I love my 95 but honestly, it's not god's gift to mankind.

Reliability in VW's made in Mexico do rate poorly in general but have you driven a late model VW?

the 180 hp 1.8 is a fun engine and the VR6 has a lot of low end torque. I haven't driven the GLI or the R32 yet but from reading about them, they are not laughing matter!

Audi is just a nice VW. Everything about them is the same. That is why they are sold at the same place usually. You just pay $1000 for each of the 4 rings on the front of the Audi more than the VW.

I agree!
I have driven and raced quite a few VW's and they are nothing to laugh at. I mean, my brother has a 2000 Golf 1.8t, and it screams for a 4cyl car. I can beat him in the 1/4 mile, but barely. He is about .3 slower than my max.
He used to have a 1994 GTI VR6 and it would scream too. The gears and torque were just like the maxima. We were the same in every gear.

He was probably not spraying. That turbo is pretty good. He might have had a chip mod on there. It adds 50 hp just to get a chip on the 1.8t. Not fair! ha ha.

You aren't lying about that. My brother's '02 Passat (Pi$$ant) has had it's share of problems. He had to replace his whole 1.8T motor b/c the oil pump f'd up, now his a/c crapped out and his low-beams stopped working for no reason (his bulbs are ok), he regrets getting the Passat since to him it was a move-up from his Maxima (which I have now, ha ha Joe) so he'll never buy another VW

You can't even compare the two cars. And for the jetta gli it has the same motor as my other buddy's 20th anaversity gti but the gti is lighter and I can put it to him. In fact most of my friends are vw guys and I hate those car's. They all are brand new and paying a **** load per month and can't beat my maxima. It's stupid, I'm constantly giving them rides to and from the dealer becuase there car is broken. One of my other vw friends has a 01 gti 1.8t and he has aem intake, cat back, forged motor sport diverter valve( bov), a 4 bar fuel pressure regulator, greddy boost controler and a ground wire kit and If we race off a light I take him buy a car the whole time. From a roll he jumps me in second by a little but in almost no time not even befor the 2nd to 3rd shift I've taken him a agin. And that's at full boost. Oh and he has an n75 valve that makes it hold boost when running full. I'm just not impresed. And befor you guys go saying but with a chip because I know. I know the get stupid gains from there chips. But they have to void there waranty to do it so most vw's don't. Sorry org. just venting bout the vw's

I love maximas, but like someone said above, they are not the best thing since sliced bread.

I think if your friends knew how to drive a few of those VW's that you described as racing, you would lose. That is just what I know of VW's that are turbo.

As far as the dependability thing though......I couldn't agree with you more. I feel like the Maximas are much, much more dependable.

same thing happens to me. the maxima has a good reputation. it gets respect as a sports sedan. the new 265hp max doesnt hurt either... btw the g35 owns the max!

A few bolt on mods NA for 4th gen max makes us almost as fast as the G35 SEDAN. the coupe will kill.

See you would think that but I have 4 friends that have 1.8t's and they are all good drivers and out of all 4 including the 180 horse power 20th aniversity gti the best any of them has put down at the track is a 15.111 and it was the one with a ton a mod's that I talked about above. They are really not very fast in stock form. With just intake, y, ecu, b pipe, stock muffler I ran a 14.976. So admitaly I barely beat my buddy but he has a ton done and it's turbo. I'm not talking **** just race one man.

No one is really giving a clear answer here... but from what i've read in previous posts / seen in the past VW's aren't that bad... at all.

I'm just hoping that those of you that said you can roast passat's / jetta's were right.. cause my friend is in love with VW's and plans on getting a 99+ as i'm getting my auto 97 GXE passed to me.

and him beating me on the highway is just not going to go over very well... i simply won't live for it ... losing to his a$$ is just not my style..
