I have noticed some 5th Gen Maximas lately that have metal/chrome door handles. What cars came with these and is it possible to swap them into my '03 SE? Also, does anyone know if the metal I30/35 interior door handles would work in our cars?

 

The chrome door handles are a standard feature on 4th and 5th gen GLE models. I'm certain you could swap those for the body-colored ones, but not sure about the I35 transplant.

 

Now where would I find a set of those handles?

 

If it was really a big deal for you I would check some local junkyards for some GLEs (I believe 00-01 GXEs had them also?) and I can remember some time back there was another thread about this in which someone had stated that older Altima (in chrome) door handles fit the newer Maxes also...if you could find a good deal on some might be worth a try. And of course you always have eBay IMO I35 handles would probably also work since they are mechanically the same car; why would such a small thing as ext.door handles differ?

 

Very true. I am also looking into the chrome interior handles and manual lock switch from the I30/35s. I know there is a how-to for the 4th gens on swapping the interior pieces.

 

Anyone have a part number on the metal door handles from the GLE's?
