Sunroof troubles

Hi, my second post My 1995 GLE has been having a few issues with the sunroof. A few months ago the shade under the sunroof stopped sliding back and forward with the glass (I had to push it back with my hands whenever I opened or closed it). Then the shade started getting stuck partially open/closed, and I would have to force it pretty hard to move it. So of course, it wasn't too long before the thing basically popped off. Since then I have just driven without a shade, but I live in Texas and summer is coming, so a sunroof - sunshade + leather = uh oh......

I have the shade sitting in my garage, and I've been trying to fix it. One of the little runners on the side is completely snapped off, and I can't get the shade to stay on the track without it. I was going to try to fabricate one, but that's going to be a real *****, and I'm not sure I can make one that's as flexible as I need it to be. I've googled like crazy trying to find any helpful info, but to no avail. Does anyone know if I can pick up one of those little runners somewhere, or even just pick up an aftermarket sunshade instead? If so, please point me in the right direction. Thanx.

This forum is so active, this thread hit page 4 in under a day. Can someone please tell me something so I don't have to keep bumping? I've read all of the FAQs, Stickies, and spent hours googling without turning up anything. Out of all the people who frequent this forum and post enough to knock my thread down that far without a single response, someone has to know something, please!

Okay..

If this is a STOCK/OEM moon roof then you need to purchase a moonroof replacemnt kit. I have seen links on here for them for around 65 dollars. This will have the parts you need. New tracks, new pieces and so forth.

If this is an after market moon roof you need to go here.
http://www.sunroofdoctor.com/ This guy sells them lower than anyone and has a good support. I worked with a guy named "RICK" on mine.

It's not a broken sunroof, it's just a broken sunroof shade. You know, the little headliner that slides underneath it. There's no reason to pay $65 for a kit just to fix that.... And yes, it's OEM (GLEs have stock sunroofs).

Not ALL GLE's have stock moon roofs. Mine didnt and I know others that didnt. You want to fix that shade? Go to a junkyard.. Call your local dealership..

Best I can tell you

Oh BTW 65 dollars aint Schznit compared to what it would cost to get the kit from the dealer or to get them to fix it. Most dealers charge 80 dollars an hour to work on ur car.

Yeah, maybe that's why I don't go to the dealer... They wanted $1.80 per RETAINER for the panel retainers (you know, the little plastic push-pins under that hold up the wheel panel) as opposed to $2.75 for a pack of 25 at AutoZone. My point it, for $65 I can buy a whole new sunroof kit, which is utterly retarded overkill for the shade. I've never seen a GLE without a sunroof, and that's one of the characteristics listed in the 4th Gen Faq for GLEs, sorry.... A dealership will charge me an assload if they carry the sunshade, I just want to know if anyone knows of any aftermarket ones that fit or if they know how to fix the runner. And $65 is a lot of money, especially just to fix the shade.

if you decide not to fix it you could think about putting some dark tint on the glass so that it wouldnt heat up your car like an oven and destroy your seats
