**HELP** LED spoiler wiring needed!( pics)

**To all you guys who are experts at LED wiring

I am working on replacing my blown spoiler LED light with one made out of brighter LED's and perf board. I am stuck though. Im using about 20-25 super bright LED's, half watt 680 ohm resistors and a 4003 pnp diode.
All i have set up now is one LED, a resistor and diode on a breadboard (see pic)

I would like to know how do I go about soldering these together on the perf board because I have blown about 10 LED's already on the breadboard. Any rough microsoft paint wiring diagrams on my setup would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know where you're going here, but I'll try to help. First off, I'm seeing a red difused LED. That thing is not going to be anywhere near bright enough for what you're doing. Go with a 5000 mcd at the minimum. Second, you have to calculate the resistance you'll need for each LED if you're gonna do it that way, or the set of LEDs. Most LEDs run at about .25 watts. So with that half watt resistor, you could probably run 2 LEDs. Use the formula to figure out your resistance.

Source voltage (12 volts) minus (-) Forward Voltage (this varies with your LEDs) divided by (/) the miliamps of your LED or LED set.

If you run 20 LEDs in parallel, and each LED is rated at 20 mA, then you have a 400 mA circuit. Also remember that if each runs at about a 1/4 watt, you're looking at about 5 watts. You could essentially run this setup off of one resistor if done properly. I hope this helps a bit.

David,
Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my post. The picture of the setup is powered on so the LED is not on. I plan on purchasing the super bright 5000mcd LED's from ebay but just bought the cheap ones to practice on.

As far as running 20 LED's in parallel, everytime i hook up it up on the bread board, it works fine. Then when i wire it up on the perf board, the LED blows out. I will try again tonight when i get home and use your forumla. Thanks again

Also, you don't need a diode and a resistor. A resistor of the correct value will work just fine on the perf board. No diode needed. Just make sure you don't reverse polarize the LED or it will fry.
